New Rurouni Kenshin Anime's 1st BD/DVD Volume Titled, Dated

The official website for the new Rurouni Kenshin anime project announced the title and Blu-ray/DVD release date for the first of the anime's two volumes. Aniplex will ship Rurouni Kenshin: Shin Kyoto-Hen Zenpen Homura no Ori (Rurouni Kenshin: New Kyoto Arc Part I: Cage of Flames) on March 21, 2012. The second volume is slated to be completed next summer. On Friday, the website presented the latest screenshots from the first volume.
The 45-minute first volume will be available on a 6,615-yen (about US$85) Blu-ray Disc or a 5,565-yen (US$71) DVD. The first edition will include an exclusive box illustrated by character designer Hiromitsu Hagiwara, a book of storyboards by director Kazuhiro Furuhashi and episode director Hiro Kaburaki, a booklet of production materials, and a randomly distributed filmstrip.
The first volume began a one-week run in two theaters in Tokyo and Osaka on Saturday. The staff held a contest to name the first volume, and the "Homura no Ori" (Cage of Flames) title was selected from over 1,000 entries.
The new anime series remakes the Kyoto story arc of Nobuhiro Watsuki's original manga and the previous anime adaptation. In particular, it depicts the battle of Kenshin Himura and Makoto Shishio and is told from the point of view of the Oniwabanshū ninja Misao Makimachi.
