That is not necessarily true.
There are official or public channels for complaints, and then there are unofficial and private channels for complaints. The latter one allows there to be deniability for the complainant. |

Might be just caving to political pressures but if you get too close in likeness/actions of currently sitting officials there are bound to be repercussions. Japanese will be pretty sensitive to that stuff. Heck do it in China and they'll give you a new chair that will probably blow-up.

Do the same attitudes and restrictions apply to live-action television? Are there political satires like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Japanese TV?

I wonder, when did anime become this politically correct? Honestly, at least these days, there seems to be much more focus on that than the show itself.
In some fairness, if the anime is being too offensive, I can see where there might be an issue, but instances of that nature that really are meant only be seen as offensive are not uncommon, but aren't blasted as much as one would think. I don't know about anyone else and can only speak for myself, but I miss the days of when you could watch a show for enjoyment and not have to be constantly thinking about political correctness or anything too serious. |

Look, if Renhou Murata (one of the most powerful politicians in Japan) does not object, then somebody needs to read the TV Tokyo people the "riot act" for pulling this episode for all the WRONG reasons.

But we don't really know that Renhou Murata (or one of Murata's people) didn't object. They *said* that there was no objection, but we have no way of knowing if that is true. |
