This isn't a server issue, it's a DNS issue (i. e. translating the domain name to a server IP address). I get various servers when surfing the forum here (peorth, skuld, urd, bel) but the only domain under which I can reach ANN right now is the Australian one, bot the .com and the .co.uk give me the Cloudflare error message instead.

Cloudflare is between you and and the server, which complicates things. The fast/animenewsnetwork.com/.au/.co.uk addresses now resolve in DNS to cloudflare proxies.
Skuld/Urd/Peorth/Bel all still connect directly. |

I've been semi-frequently getting the CloudFlare "Website is currently unreachable" error over the past few weeks when trying to access ANN.
Eventually I'm able to connect again, but it sounds like either the ANN servers are becoming unresponsive semi-frequently or CloudFlare is having issues maintaining connectivity to them. |

I am having problems with CloudFlare and the site in general.
It seems that CloudFlare blocks access more often when I use a link in an "old" ANN page (a page left unvisited in a tab for a day or so). Although this is not always the case. I sometimes receive a CloudFlare block when I try to open the ANN main page for the first time. Last night I viewed this "old" ANN page - I used the link to the encyclopedia and received the CloudFlare message that so many are receiving - However, I was able to get to the encyclopedia via the Australian site. This morning, I logged out of the ANN site and then logged in again. I got in, but the view was magnified so that it did not fit the screen - However, the Australian site was not "overmagnified" - I was able to correct the view on the US site by zooming out a couple of clicks - The "overmagnification" problem is easy enough to correct at my end, but I still find it a little annoying. What I find more annoying are the CloudFlare problems. While the CloudFlare blockade of the ANN site is relatively infrequent (≈ 1/week), when it occurs it seems to occur as a "cluster" of blocks, e.g., it took two attempts to get to this forum after I had regained access to the ANN front page. I hope that the CloudFlare issue will be fixed soon. If not, I shall be compelled to sit in the corner and whine about how vexatious life is. |

We've been using ClouFlare's services for a while now. For most visitors the service is making the site much faster, but for a very small number of visitors it's making the site unreachable. While we're happy with the overall result, we don't want to leave anyone behind, so we're working with CF to get this issue figured out.
Note: This is not about the "Blocked by Cloudflare" error. If you see that, go here. If you get the CloudFlare "Website Offline" error, please try the following: 1) Click on the "Live Version" link to see if that fixes the problem; If it does not please: 2) Perform a traceroute to www.animenewsnetwork.com or whatever host you are trying to access (ex: www.animenewsnetwork.com or www.animenewsnetwork.com) 3) Post a copy of that tracert here. Please make sure to post it immediately after performing it. If you do not have an account, you can e-mail it to [email protected] -------------- Windows Users: open a command prompt and type "tracert www.animenewsnetwork.com" OR you can download a program called WinMTR which will do the traceroute for you and also let you copy it to the clipboard with relative ease. ----------- We'll work on getting the problem resolved, but in the meantime, you can circumvent CloudFlare by accessing ANN via this url: www-d.animenewsnetwork.com --------- Addendum: If you could provide multiple tracerts the way Devil Doll did below, that would be excellent! Most important is to provide the host you are having trouble with and any one of the following: www.animenewsnetwork.com www.animenewsnetwork.com www.animenewsnetwork.com etc... Tracerts directly to the machine names will not help. Last edited by Tempest on Fri Nov 11, 2011 12:47 pm; edited 1 time in total |

There's no such site as www.animenewsnetwork.com so that's probably why it's not accessible.

Sorry. These domain names are so confusing (US, UK, AU and DE having four different schemas)...
Routenverfolgung zu animenewsnetwork.com.au [141.101.124.107] über maximal 30 Abschnitte: 1 488 ms 325 ms 476 ms (my IP address) 2 489 ms 397 ms 623 ms 87.186.248.74 3 501 ms 578 ms 560 ms f-ed3-i.F.DE.NET.DTAG.DE [62.154.14.194] 4 381 ms 260 ms 250 ms 80.156.160.46 5 566 ms 583 ms 384 ms xe-3-0-3.ar2.ams2.nl.nlayer.net [69.22.139.229] 6 276 ms 423 ms 432 ms vlan-73.ar1.ams3.nl.nlayer.net [69.22.139.126] 7 499 ms 611 ms 558 ms as13335.xe-3-0-2.ar1.ams3.nl.nlayer.net [63.141.223.30] 8 351 ms 305 ms 433 ms 141.101.124.107 (Apparently the issue lies beyond my scope of visibility.) The Australian domain was the last one that became unavailable for me, and now is the only one that still says "Site is offline". |

Right now, www.animenewsnetwork.com went "currently offline" again; I switched to skuld.animenewsnetwork.com in order to post this.
The .co.uk and the .com.au domain would currently work as expected. |

You'd need to do the traceroute for www; without that it goes directly to the ANN servers. It's only going through Cloudflare when the traceroute displays something like the cf-ssl4754-protected-www.animenewsnetwork.com in your first traceroute. so:

Recapping:
If you see this error message
or this error message
Then click the "retry a live version" link. If that doesn't work, please help us figure out the problem by giving us info about each of our three domains: 1a. go to www.animenewsnetwork.com 1b. note if you get the cloudflare error message or not 1c. in a command prompt, type tracert www.animenewsnetwork.com and press enter 1d. copy-paste the results 2a. go to www.animenewsnetwork.com 2b. note if you get the cloudflare error message or not 2c. in a command prompt, type tracert www.animenewsnetwork.com.au and press enter 2d. copy-paste the results 3a. go to www.animenewsnetwork.com 3b. note if you get the cloudflare error message or not 3c. in a command prompt, type tracert www.animenewsnetwork.co.uk and press enter 3d. copy-paste the results post the results obtained above in this thread or mail them to [email protected] for example:
Then you can bypass the Cloudflare problem by using our direct urls: www-d.animenewsnetwork.com www-d.animenewsnetwork.com www-d.animenewsnetwork.com |

On a related subject, can I request a shorter version of redirect_to_best_locale? I know you can get it by clicking the USA link at the top, but if the UK site is inaccessible and the USA site redirects you to the UK site automatically you don't get to click on the button...
