I'm sorry, I know it's not necessarily 'fair' to those who live in other countries, but this is a big move for the manga industry right here. Everything starts small, but then gets bigger. The vice president pretty much said that himself. They will see about expanding it to other countries if it is a success for them in USA and Canada. |

That's one of my main problems with this push towards digital. I've had it up to here with region blocking!

Well, you'll be able to order the print versions with no problems- which sound as if they're all headed to eventually become simultaneous with Japan. Like the article said, people in Canada/US sound to be a test market- if it's a big enough hit, it may expand to other countries [probably with the help of Shu/Sho/VIZ's respective licensees in those countries] |

Since when did American localization companies made an effort to expand to other countries? Crunchyroll is the only one I know doing that. (I don't know if Fate/Zero is due to Aniplex or Aniplex of America)

Methinks they want to start out small, because if they start out big and it flops, then they're in a big flopping hole financially. To add more countries, they have to pay for more licenses from each manga for every country. (Though this doesn't preclude other countries taking the initiative and urge their own institutions to develop local alternatives to depend on.)

See, this is the problem that's keeping official digital distribution from taking off and being able to deal with digital piracy. It was somewhat of a problem with print media too, though in that case there just wasn't anything stopping people from importing from overseas if a title wasn't officially distributed in their country. |

Look at books in particular. Initial releases: Hardcovers for the USA, Paperbacks for the rest of the world. Hell, manga is much smaller in Japan to boot!! In before "Because of the markets stupid!!" shenanigans. |

I still don't see the law that says that US companies have to pander to other countries - especially ones that aren't even in their region code. Whenever a foreign country is willing to deal with the US, I'm grateful; I don't expect to be served just because I think I deserve it.
Here's an idea: The GBP/Yen ratio right now is pretty kick ass. Why don't you import it via SAL shipping instead of simply continuing to pirate it? You're not helping the cause by continuing to do so, and you'd actually show that you care about supporting the industry as opposed to finding excuses to stick it to The Man. This is an expensive venture, and if Europeans can't see the risk in immediately expanding to other countries without a trial period of any sort on a smaller scale, then there's really no point in trying to explain it. Let them whine. |

I was referring to the printed collections, which are continuing. And yes, the mag was only distributed in the US/Canada before this [I'm assuming any UK copies would of been imported by Diamond, and not on newsstands] |

Wait...rental...really? And only four weeks at that, they could at least let us keep it for the duration of the subscription. I had been considering subscribing but I don't think I will now. With the print version I at least got to keep the issues and reread them. This seems suspiciously like a money grab to me, get fans to pay for the subscription to read their favorite series, and then make them buy the volumes to reread them later. With most digital services like this you either pay for unlimited access to a large library of content (e.g. Netflix or Marvel unlimited) or purchase specific items and get to keep access (amazon etc.) At this point there simply isn't enough content here for me to bother with it, especially if I can only access said content for such a limited time.
