Nice marketing strategy, but it's circular logic. Attendees will come if you get good guests. Guests will come if you get more attendees.

mmmmm but if people want to make it a success they can just try to recruit enough people to go
but who has the time to go to hawii just for a convention and how many anime fans in hawii can go?

I find it strange that everyone thinks they are only looking for attendees from outside of Hawaii. Hawaii much less the island of Oahu where the con is located has a population larger than the city of Jacksonville, Florida which happens to be biggest city in that state. I think they will get more than enough attendees to show up without the rest of Conus.

First off a huge thank you to everyone is already coming to Kawaii Kon this year from Hawaii, stateside and our members from Europe.
About the 1000 attendance goal that we have set for the show this year and the "unnamed Japanese guest". It’s very simple; we have a currently pending agreement with some Japanese guest in regards to attending the show. One of the stipulations that they have requested is that we guarantee that we have at least 1000 people in attendance to the show, no hidden agenda or marketing ploy they just asked that we do this to make sure that there perspective companies get the exposure that they desire.
We won’t confirm who they are because it would really be kind of bad to announce guest that we haven’t even confirmed and if they can't come it would be a huge disservice to all the people who plan on attending the convention to do so.
With this in mind we thought it only right to let our current Kawaii Kon members know what was going on, as we want our attendees to feel that they are really part of the show and have some solid input into what goes on.
We have little doubt that we will be able to meet this goal with the help that we are getting from our great staff, members and directors in kicking off Hawaii's first anime convention.
But please come visit us in April if you can and if not just drop by the web site and just say hello.
Mahalo,
Scott Richardson

If I were to go, I'd probably not hang out at the con for too much... I'd probably go visit my old high school and hit up a few other places on the island instead.
