'The anime will be an adolescent romantic comedy. '
You don't say. I'm going to go completely out on a limb here and say it's about a useless wishywashy male lead surrounded by gorgeous horny women who all want him because he's such a nebbish, and he will desperately avoid having sex with any of them because GOOD LORD, PEOPLE

Except in any of the Please! series, there weren't any blatant harems.

The Please! series has more complex relationships than simply straight harem (there's the whole Kaeda/Hyouske thing for instance), but while it's all about the Mizuho slash Kei shipping you've still got Koishi and Natchan and Maho and etc.
Almost all the harem series have complications, but it all comes down to stunning top of class ladies who could do much better fighting for nebbish males like the viewer. It doesn't have to be Negima level ridiculous to be harem.

What is wrong with harem anime as a genre? There is good harem (Love Hina), bad harem (to LOVE ru) and Heavens' send harem (Onegai Teacher/Twins).
Expect only the best from those guys.

Harem is lazy, boring, and pandering. Even Ranma 1/2 had more complicated relationships.
Look, the main appeal of harem is that you have your buffet of girls. You've got your dojikko, you've got your tsundere, you've got your megane, you've got your pure girl, you've got your tomboy, you've got your sexpot, you've got your loli, your imouto, blah blah blah down the entire list of required potential sex partners. You can have all these without making them all desperately hot for a loser.
Taking Asobi ni Iku Yo as an example, pair Kio up with Erisu as intended. Would it really be a worse show if Minami and Aoi weren't also after after Kio? I think they'd be far more interesting if they weren't so pathetically fixated on him.
You'll see these dynamics in more adult (not porn) anime, so maybe it's just a teen thing.

You don't say... color me not surprised.
Harems. I can't decide what I hate more, the genre or the male lead.
I think, however, I may have a solution: the Yuri Harem! Yes! That's right! Remove the milquetoast failure of a Y chromosome and simply populate your harem comedy with highly sapphic & attractive buxom lasses. Pure gold!

Please Teacher! always felt more heart-warming and genuine in comparison to a majority of the other romantic comedy anime out there. There was definitely plot development present despite the setup, and some of the characters grew throughout the series. It also wasn't a true harem scenario where all the girls liked him & he couldn't decide. He had his (incredibly sexy!) partner practically from the get-go.
If they can manage a balance between the storytelling and the probable pandering, then I'm all in for this. I bought Please Teacher! off of the premise and the trailer, and it still remains in my Top 3, six years later. There's no guarantee the quality will be the same, but I'm a little hopeful.

well if you want a yuri harem, then go watch strawberry panic....
I for one, own both please teacher and twins, and still enjoy watching them, they are not over the top harems, like Kanokon, but more like a dramedy.
Oh, and I also own kanokon, sometimes you have to turn off your brain, and watch something ridiculous once and a while. slutty fox deities are fun to watch.

Same here (shake hands). While it might look like a harem at first glance, if you watch a few episode you'd know the male lead has fixed his eyes on only one female (Ichigo Morino knows that too). Their theme songs also helped increasing their popularity. A friend of mine in Hong Kong still visit Lake Kizaki every year.

Same again! For me it's because of Kawasumi x Noto.

They can call it a "new original anime" but it doesn't sound that original to me. I hate to get pedantic, but it's not a harem show. A harem show needs at least four girls (or guys in the case of Fushigi Yuugi, I don't discriminate). Technically, this would be a love triangle, although the result will be much the same.

Except Strawberry Panic (which I have seen) isn't a Harem show, it's a Yuri Romance/Drama, and not a very good one as romance/dramas go.
When I say Yuri Harem think any regular harem show you've seen and then replace that failure of a Y chromosome with a super hot girl/woman. That is a Yuri Harem--a little romance, a little comedy, a little drama, a little hentai... BRILLIANT! And not one animated male loser about to stink up the place.

I though it was at least three females for a harem to exist, but maybe our views are different.
Given my love for the harem genre I will probably check this when ever it comes out.

+1
I never even thought of the Onegai series as a harem at all and like asimpson2006 mentioned, I don't think they qualify as one anyways.
Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this anime if they can keep the same level of endearing relationships, romance and drama, though I suppose from the sound of it, it might have less drama and more humor? I'm also glad that it's an original work so we don't have to wait on manga to wrap it up
