I've heard the same, I've even heard that the first time AS took Lupin III off, a TON of Lupin fans screamed, yelled, and b*tched about them taking it off, so that says that Lupin had a good fan following on AS.

It has a vocal fan following, not necessarily a big one (hell, I'm one of them). They take Lupin off, people pitch fits, they throw it back on, and it tanks in the ratings because there just aren't enough viewers to sustain it...just the loud ones that barely stick around half the time.

Lupin's doing a lot better than it was during the fansub days. They just need to release more of the movies to get new fans interested in the show.
