CN didn't come up with calling GitS cyberpunk. The original GitS movie was called cyberpunk when it was released, and it is. The definition (from the American Heritage Dictionary) is "Fast-paced science fiction involving futuristic computer-based societies". The cyberpunk genre began in the '80's, at least as it is known today.

I also started watching Super Milk-Chan with an open mind. I don't like it at all and I think it really is making other anime like, well everything else on AS look bad. And I don't care for TGttM either, I only laughed once and it was because it was that dumb, I couldn't help myself.

Great news to hear of a second season for GitS!
FMA doing well isn't a suprise, it's a pretty good show overal.
And I'd have to agree that the other nights show was a little more mature, my little cousin probably wouldn't have liked it at all.

Birdman has still got it, but what's up with Sealab, it's just not that funny anymore. There are only so many miss-adventures ATHF can go through before things start to seem dull, or as someone put it repetative.

I'm sure if Wolf's Rain was on earlier more people would watch it, and that goes for Witch Hunter Robin too. Heck, the only way I can watch these shows is because I go to sleep at like 9:00, just so I can get up to watch them, then fall right back asleep to try and catch another hour or 3 of sleep before I have to get up.

I am over joyed with the news about Inuyasha and having 3 premiers a week. I'll try not to miss a single one.

I'm really happy that Ghost in the Shell: SAC is doing so well in the ratings and is going to get the second season. I was worried, because slower shows like GitS: SAC and Witch Hunter Robin didn't do as well as action-packed shows in the past.

GitS though is more futuristic, has lots of pretty images, good music, and an overall greater appeal. Witch Hunter Robin is so incredibly depressing to look at and overall much more dull.

Wait, you're glad GitS:SAC is doing as well in the ratings because shows like GitS:SAC didn't do as well? I'm confused.

I must disagree with you on Tom goes to the Mayor. The only episode I enjoyed was "Pioneer Island", and it wasn't as good as many inhouse comedy shows have been in the past. Plus, it just seems like they're cutting corners with the animation.

Tom Goes to the Mayor isn't funny at all IMO.

How is that disagreeing with me?

Woops, I was disagreeing with the guy above you. I read that he liked it and for some reason, my subconscious told me you liked it. Stupid subconscious...

Necros Antiquor, think about using spoilers when you give away important plot points to shows like FMA in the future, eh?

Sorry, I didn't realize that there were any "spoilers" in that episode. I'm watching it for the first time, so I don't know when something really important is going to happen. (And I forgot that there is the spoiler tag.) I thought the spoiler[chimera] this was good for two episodes at most, and I'm sure they didn't reveal anything amazing about spoiler[that guy with the weird arm.]

Yes, I'm glad, because the American mainstream didn't like slower-paced shows like Witch Hunter Robin and .hack//SIGN as much. Sure, there's more action in GitS: SAC, but it's still slow-paced. I'm just glad not everything has to be full of action to do well. And I for one liked Witch Hunter Robin, once it got going.

The spoiler is that spoiler[anyone who hasn't seen that episode yet or are waiting for the DVDs don't know about the truth behind the chimeras. Just blurting it out ruins the surprise for those people. And it does become important again around Ep. 22. Everything in this show has the potential of coming back, especially shocking stuff like this.]

Just keep in mind, if you didn't see it coming then chances are someone who hasn't seen the show yet wont either.

Actually...Fullmetal Alchemist is for kids. In Japan, anyway. Wink

Oh here we go again.

Everytime someone says "well in Japan this show was made for these people" no one ever has any marketing research or stats to prove it.

The original FMA manga was (and still is) serialized in "Shounen Monthly Gangan" magazine, published by Square-Enix for the same age group as Shounen Jump.

This doesn't mean it's "just for kids," but it is definitely not "not for kids."

ATHF, Family guy and Venture Brothers are the only shows I really hear anyone talk about, at least at my work.

I remember when they were kidding about canceling ATHF so many people were upset, theres no way that show is going to stop anytime soon.

Harvey can go but Sealab still has a soft spot in my heart. Every now and then they have a funny moment that cracks me up. I find stormy to be hilarious.

I think the real reason people don't like Tom is only because of the animation. I like their kind of humor though. If it was animated differently people might like it better.

"Tii...tooeee...tee...tiii...tiiigerrr..tahhh.." "It's Tom."

Good news, but I must object to the constant use of the term "cyberpunk" by Cartoon Network. Who came up with it, and who decided that it describes Ghost in the Shell accurately? The "cyber" part is obvious, but why "punk"? There's no "punk" music or any characters with a "punk" lifestyle (they're cops... that's like the complete opposite of punks). Why not just call it "science fiction"? That sounds a lot better, and is a lot more accurate...

I've sort of wondered that myself. Cool Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science-fiction and it sounds a lot cooler. I have a feeling that when it comes to AS, the 'coolness' factor is what wins out.

However, I think "punk" refers to people who operate beyond (above, below, or around) the law. In this case, beyond the physical laws of earth in the ether of a cyber world.

Even though they are cops, they are operating in a world where the law is rather shadowy at best. How do you define or interpret 'law' when you are operating within another person's brain? This is particularly emphasized in the first movie.

Ghost In The Shell is a fantastic show. I'm thrilled that 2nd Gig's been picked up! I hope more people grab onto it. Unfortunately it's got a reputation for being obtuse. It really isn't.

I also like Venture Brothers. It grows on you.

I'm also thrilled that everything has been nudged up time-wise. The earlier time slot is good for my old bones.

(This is sort of an old post, but I wanted to edit this to say that "punk" is sort of the precursor to the whole 'grunge' thing, except that grunge and slack stayed within the bounds of societal norms and within the bounds of the law, where 'punk' and 'punks' strayed far outside of it. I'm just speaking as someone who watched the movement during the 70s.)
