Oh goody, lots of titles I haven't watched before. This will be fun.
/sarcasm

Group B-1
Digidestined vs. Myotismon, Digimon Adventures
vs.
Nemo vs. Gargoyle, Nadia: Secret of the Blue Waters

Digidestined and Myotismon, Digimon Adventures

The best arc of the original series was the Myotismon arc, and the Digi-Destined's conflict with him set a better written and darker tone.

Group B-2
Sailor Scouts vs. Queen Beryl, Sailor Moon
vs.
Kira Yamato vs. Athrun Zala, Gundam SEED

Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala, Gundam SEED

It was the driving force of the first half of the show in terms of the characters.

Group B-3
Le Secret du Roi vs. Revolutionary Brethren, Le Chevalier d’Eon
vs.
Nanoha Takamachi vs. Fate Testarossa, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

Le Secret du Roi and Revolutionary Brethren, Le Chevalier d’Eon

While the reason Dorcas_Aurelia gave to voting against Kira and Athrun was patently unfair, he did convince me as to the merits of this matchup.

Group B-4
Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise
vs.
Shunan vs. Nugan, The Beast Player Erin

Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise

While their show may suck, their rivalry is too big and prominent for me to vote against them, at least in this battle.

Group B-5
Mink vs. Veena, Dragon Half
vs.
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman vs. Galactor, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman

Science Ninja Team Gatchaman and Galactor, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman

Even the guy who nominated Mink and Veena voted against them. That tells me something.

Group B-6
Goku vs. Vegeta, Dragon Ball Z
vs.
Miki Onimaru vs. Megumi Kannazuki, Ramen Fighter Miki

Goku and Vegeta, Dragon Ball Z

Oh come off it, as if one of the biggest and best rivalries in Shounen history wasn't going to get my vote in the first round against unknown competition.

Group B-7
Nabuca vs. Shu, Now and Then, Here and There
vs.
Kyoko Mogami vs. Sho Fuwa, Skip Beat!

Nabuca and Shu, Now and Then, Here and There

As alluded to in the Best Supporting Character tournament, Nabuca provides a vital contrast to Shu by voicing the fear and ideology that Shu must overcome. Their "rivalry" is a fundamental aspect to the show.

----------

Eh, running out of time so I'll just quickly knock these votes off.

Group B-8
Inuyasha vs. Koga, Inuyasha franchise
vs.
Zatch Bell vs. Brago, Zatch Bell

Zatch Bell and Brago, Zatch Bell

Group B-9
Lelouch Lamperouge vs. Suzaku Kurugi, Code Geass
vs.
Tamahome vs. Makago, Fushigi Yugi

Lelouch Lamperouge and Suzaku Kurugi, Code Geass

Group B-10
Noir vs. Soldats, Noir
vs.
Sinon Kozuki vs. Dui Elroy, Starship Operators

Noir and Soldats, Noir

Group B-11
Kenji Harima vs. Haruki Hanai, School Rumble
vs.
Nanoha Takamachi vs. Vita, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A

Kenji Harima and Haruki Hanai, School Rumble

Group B-12
Capulets vs. Lord Montague, Romeo x Juliet
vs.
Chika Akatsuki vs. Shito Tachibana, Zombie Loan

Capulets and Lord Montague, Romeo x Juliet

Group B-13
Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha franchise
vs.
Ban and Ginji vs. Dr. Jackal, Get Backers

Ban and Ginji and Dr. Jackal, Get Backers

Group B-14
Love Machine vs. Kenji Koiso and the Jinnouchis, Summer Wars
vs.
Speed Racer vs. Racer X, Speed Racer

Speed Racer and Racer X, Speed Racer

Group B-15
Ouran High School Host Club vs. Zuka Club, Ouran High School Host Club
vs.
Three Goddesses vs. Mara, Ah!/Oh My Goddess franchise

Three Goddesses and Mara, Ah!/Oh My Goddess franchise

Group B-16
Amuro Ray vs. Char Aznable, Mobile Suit Gundam
vs.
Saya vs. Diva, Blood+

Amuro Ray and Char Aznable, Mobile Suit Gundam

I just want to clarify something

Shunan vs. Nugan is also a very good rivalry. Many people think Sasuke's an unlikable character, but I didn't like Nugan either, because of his views. From what I can remember, he saw the Queen as some sort of holy goddess, instead of a human who makes mistakes.

Yes, he saw her as a holy goddess... like the rest of the people in his country, of course, apart form his brother. Nugan was against his brother, because he didn't want to break with tradition. Shunan is the one who has revolutionary views in this anime.

It was not uncommon for people from Eastern cultures to consider their rulers to be descendants of the gods. The Japanese themselves are an example. They believed that their goddess, Amaterasu, was their first emperor's mother. Nahoko Uehashi, who wrote this story and studied ethnology, must have known about it.

The Zuka club? Seriously? Sure, the Goddesses vs Mara is pretty weak, but the Zuka club got two episodes. Sakura and Syaoran got more grief over the brevity of their rivalry than these guys, and Syaoran at least had relevance after they became friends. Not only that, the Zuka club episodes were pretty much the worst in the series. They serve more purpose as an excuse for the Host Club to perform wacky antics than any actually taking antagonistic action.

Sure, Mara's thing is somewhat one-sided, and while Belldandy considers pretty much everyone a friend, that she visits the house and sits around with Urd for several minutes is rather telling of how little threat the goddesses deem her, but her entrance explains that Belldandy and Urd were the ones who sealed her away in the first place. And like Ggultra said, the Goddesses do have to take measures to some very real threats that Mara causes. Mara was the one who started the Lord of Terror incident, and that nearly got the goddesses killed before they managed to stop him.

Or if you need an outright example of the goddesses opposing Mara, take the episode where Mara summons Sembei. Mara possesses Keiichi's sister to keep a close eye on her sabotage plots, and when Belldandy realizes this, she confronts possessed Megumi with one of Mara's weaknesses, forcing Mara out.

While the Ouran/Zuka rivalry may more accurately fit the definition of rivalry, the interaction between the groups is miniscule, while the goddesses and Mara's relationship is close enough that the two sides know and exploit the vulnerabilities of the other.

Dorcas's argument has caused me to reconsider on this one. I will now be switching my vote the other way (i.e. for The Goddesses vs. Mara).

EDIT: Oh, and so we're clear on the time frame, you have about 12 hours left from the time of this post.

Thanks for the background info. Interesting to read. I haven't been raised in such a culture, Shunan's views aren't that different from mine. Maybe because Shunan somehow knew the royal family better, he saw their humanity. I just wanted to clarify why I didn't like Nugan that much (don't like Sasuke's character either Wink).
(I hope there'll be more of Uehashi's works translated to anime, I like Seirei no Moribito too)

Give me a reason to vote for them and I'll change it. That the initial nomination for them was identical to two others presented the impression that it was possibly a joke entry. If it isn't one, then justify it with reasoning that isn't so boiler plate it was used with only name changes for two other sets of rivals. If their supporters can't muster even the enthusiasm for that, then they can't really be that impressive a submission.

Group B-1
Digidestined vs. Myotismon, Digimon Adventures
vs.
Nemo vs. Gargoyle, Nadia: Secret of the Blue Waters

Voting for: Digidestined vs. Myotismon

Unfortunately, there haven't been too many statements in favor of this rivalry from Nadia and I haven't seen the series myself yet. That's too bad, because the guide entry does make it sound interesting enough on the surface. But in spite of not being familiar with the Digimon franchise either, their representatives have usually fared well in these tournaments in terms of both guide entries and supporting arguments. This time around, those seem to be shaping up quite decently too. That being the case, I suppose I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

Group B-2
Sailor Scouts vs. Queen Beryl, Sailor Moon
vs.
Kira Yamato vs. Athrun Zala, Gundam SEED

Voting for: Sailor Scouts vs. Queen Beryl

More or less the result of a coin toss, but I'll try to come up with some sort of rationalization.

Even if the Gundam SEED entry had been properly submitted and wasn't actually meant to be something of a joke, I'm not that interested or invested in either rivalry here. Frankly, neither of them would really be my cup of at this time. There were some interesting elements throughout the Kira vs. Athrun rivalry, in all fairness, and dtm42 has a point about its being the driving factor of much of the series....but I didn't consider it as memorable by the time everything was said and done. Guess I generally prefer rivalries that involve more of a contrast between the two opposing sides, even if they are made up of former friends.

That said, I guess what the first Sailor Moon series lacked in terms of originality was compensated by having a fairly decent build-up to its climatic confrontation and a good resolution, so I will grudgingly give this rivalry my vote.

Group B-3
Le Secret du Roi vs. Revolutionary Brethren, Le Chevalier d’Eon
vs.
Nanoha Takamachi vs. Fate Testarossa, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

Voting for: Le Secret du Roi vs. Revolutionary Brethren

I actually enjoyed watching the Nanoha vs. Fate confrontation, in spite of the fact it didn't really last beyond the early-to-mid stages of the original series if I remember correctly, since they didn't have much of a reason to fight in the long run, but the alternative just sounds so much better than it's not even a contest.

Group B-4
Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise
vs.
Shunan vs. Nugan, The Beast Player Erin

Voting for: Shunan vs. Nugan

I haven't seriously seen any part of Naruto, nor do I want to, and reputation alone wasn't necessarily enough to give my support to the other rivalry, so I was originally going to go with the flow.

Ultimately though, it seems there have actually been a couple of decent arguments in favor of this rivalry, so I will try to give this choice at least some moral support.

Group B-5
Mink vs. Veena, Dragon Half
vs.
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman vs. Galactor, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman

Voting for: Science Ninja Team Gatchaman vs. Galactor

Another ultimately uninspiring set of choices here, but I'll go with the classic option just for the heck of it and because there hasn't been a particularly good reason to support the other candidates.

Group B-6
Goku vs. Vegeta, Dragon Ball Z
vs.
Miki Onimaru vs. Megumi Kannazuki, Ramen Fighter Miki

Voting for: Goku vs. Vegeta

Once upon a time I was really into Dragon Ball Z, and this rivalry was relatively attractive and intense back then despite not being exactly unprecedented within the shounen fighting genre. But at least their confrontations and animosity made for a number of emotional scenes episodes and Vegeta was, in hindsight, a pretty good foil for Goku until he more or less became a necessary ally (even if one who did try to turn back the clock once or twice).

That said, I would have been otherwise willing to vote in favor of the opposition and will thus be prepared to support any of the more interesting alternatives that are certain to show up in the upcoming rounds.

Group B-7
Nabuca vs. Shu, Now and Then, Here and There
vs.
Kyoko Mogami vs. Sho Fuwa, Skip Beat!

Voting for: Nabuca vs. Shu

Another case where it may be a little unfair to bring real or perceived facts and other vaguely remembered information from previous tournaments into the equation, but Nabuca vs. Shu does seem to be the more interesting rivalry based on said past knowledge. Still, I actually want to watch both of these shows and see whether or not that line of thought is truly justified.

Group B-8
Inuyasha vs. Koga, Inuyasha franchise
vs.
Zatch Bell vs. Brago, Zatch Bell

Voting for: Zatch Bell vs. Brago

Not much I can say here. Another apparently underwhelming set of alternatives and a decision that could have easily gone the other way if different arguments had been presented in favor of the alternative.

Group B-9
Lelouch Lamperouge vs. Suzaku Kurugi, Code Geass
vs.
Tamahome vs. Nakago, Fushigi Yugi

Voting for: Lelouch Lamperouge vs. Suzaku Kurugi

Not much of a surprise, at least not coming from me, but I will try to explain my reasoning here. The Fushigi Yugi rivalry has a nice guide entry and its only solid supporting argument I've read here in the forum seems to further justify their inclusion within this tournament, but without actually watching that series myself I still don't feel confident enough to give them my support. Nevertheless, that I'm tempted to watch the show mostly for the sake of confirming or denying this counts as a pretty good sign.

That being the case, I definitely have to support the rivalry that made Code Geass worth watching in more ways than one. These two are similar in their personal desire to ultimately do good, but otherwise differ in pretty much everything else, from methods and personalities to philosophies and abilities. Suzaku is physically strong and a great pilot who isn't especially smart but has a clear sense of morality despite working for the bad guys, while Lelouch is weak and a terrible pilot but can pull off some rather impressive stunts without always letting morality get in the way, even if he is ostensibly acting in the name of the oppressed.

I happen to like such a multifaceted contrast, because it makes for some very interesting dynamics. What we have here is a subversion of the stereotypical mecha confrontation between a heroic pilot and a misguided puppetmaster, where it is entirely possible to support either side depending on your own thoughts and preferences. What's more, neither of the two rivals is quite as squeaky-clean nor as irredeemably evil as their basic character types would suggest and that adds to their ambiguity. Some might find this to be a problem, among other issues, and would prefer a more straightforward confrontation with less flawed characters, but for me it actually represents something that should be present in far more anime.

Group B-10
Noir vs. Soldats, Noir
vs.
Sinon Kozuki vs. Dui Elroy, Starship Operators

Voting for: Sinon Kouzuki v. Dui Elroy

I don't expect them to win, to be quite frank, but the guide entry definitely made this rivalry sound like the better choice of the two. It's a pity they won't be able to move on. Other than that, concerning Noir...perhaps this series would benefit from a second viewing after all these years, but I actually remember liking the Chloe vs. Mireille and Kirika confrontation more than the overarching struggle against The Soldats led by Altena. Which is relatively similar to my reasoning for voting against the Utena Student Council as a collective, despite loving that show and its individual duels.

Group B-11
Kenji Harima vs. Haruki Hanai, School Rumble
vs.
Nanoha Takamachi vs. Vita, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A

Voting for: Kenji Harima vs. Haruki Hanai

I've consistently heard good things about School Rumble from time to time, despite certain spoilers about what happens further down the line in the manga, and I suppose it's worth voting for at least one or two comedic rivalries for a change. That said, I will acknowledge that Nanoha vs. Vita had a pretty awesome fight, but I feel this may have had more to do with the choreography than the characters themselves.

Group B-12
Capulets vs. Lord Montague, Romeo x Juliet
vs.
Chika Akatsuki vs. Shito Tachibana, Zombie Loan

Voting for: Capulets vs. Lord Montague

While it is based on a classic, I'm uncertain about how well the idea was actually implemented. Still, I'm afraid I will go with the majority here, despite not having any particularly negative points to raise against the remaining alternative.

Group B-13
Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha franchise
vs.
Ban and Ginji vs. Dr. Jackal, Get Backers

Voting for: Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru

What little I saw of Inuyasha made this seem like a pretty big deal, and enough people have backed that interpretation to make me give it the benefit of the doubt for now. Nevertheless, the fights against Dr. Jackal at least provided some of the better moments of Get Backers, in terms of both battles and clashing personalities, even if they were few and far between in the midst of other encounters.

Group B-14
Love Machine vs. Kenji Koiso and the Jinnouchis, Summer Wars
vs.
Speed Racer vs. Racer X, Speed Racer

Voting for: Love Machine vs. Kenji Koiso and the Jinnouchis

Both of them seem to have some rather lukewarm traits, even though I strongly suspect that the Summer Wars entry is simply far more entertaining to watch. At least for the moment, that sounds good enough for me.

Group B-15
Ouran High School Host Club vs. Zuka Club, Ouran High School Host Club
vs.
Three Goddesses vs. Mara, Ah!/Oh My Goddess franchise

Voting for: Three Goddesses vs. Mara

Leaving some of my doubts aside, this one does appear to be far stronger in terms of supporting arguments and the last few posts in particular seem to confirm that. Whether or not that will be enough for them to move on during the next round remains to be seen. Still, only time will tell.

Group B-16
Amuro Ray vs. Char Aznable, Mobile Suit Gundam
vs.
Saya vs. Diva, Blood+

Voting for: Amuro Ray vs. Char Aznable

This is the far more iconic or influential choice, to say the least, and certainly worthy of inclusion thanks to few memorable moments of its own...but I will openly acknowledge that Saya vs. Diva was probably a bit more consistent in terms of implementation, from what I can recall of Blood+, despite not dealing with truly new or unique concepts. "Unexpected and tragic confrontations" is definitely a good way to sum a lot of things up.

Nevertheless, I ultimately can't vote against Mobile Suit Gundam here, despite some of Tomino's quirks getting in the way, particularly by the time of Char's Counterattack. I suppose it's necessary to take the good along with the bad and give the old man some credit for introducing us to a couple of rival archetypes that have directly or indirectly left their mark on an entire genre. And while it shouldn't be relevant for this tournament, I'm hopeful that this classic rivalry will finally receive the treatment it deserves, in more than one sense, in the near future.

Group B-1
Digidestined vs. Myotismon, Digimon Adventures
vs.
Nemo vs. Gargoyle, Nadia: Secret of the Blue Waters

Digidestined and Myotismon, Digimon Adventures
Based on what has said about Digidestined in this tournament and previous one, this rivalry seems deceptively strong. Heck, supporters say that was of the best arcs/rivalries as well.
Group B-2
Sailor Scouts vs. Queen Beryl, Sailor Moon
vs.
Kira Yamato vs. Athrun Zala, Gundam SEED

Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala, Gundam SEED
A quite interesting rivalry that's the focal rivalry for the first half of the series-- good guide or not; they deserve the win.
Group B-3
Le Secret du Roi vs. Revolutionary Brethren, Le Chevalier d’Eon
vs.
Nanoha Takamachi vs. Fate Testarossa, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

Le Secret du Roi and Revolutionary Brethren, Le Chevalier d’Eon
Seen the latter and while they do falter, they do show enough merits despite a huge blunder that takes place later in the series.
Group B-4
Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise
vs.
Shunan vs. Nugan, The Beast Player Erin

Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise
A very prominent shonen rivalry from a show that garners little respect from most people on these forums. I think their merits are strong based on consistency, importance, and intensity alone, but it will be interesting to see how much the Naruto name holds them back in the long run.
Group B-5
Mink vs. Veena, Dragon Half
vs.
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman vs. Galactor, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman

Science Ninja Team Gatchaman and Galactor, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman
Yeah, when the guy who nominated a pick votes against them, their merits are bound to be questionable.
Group B-6
Goku vs. Vegeta, Dragon Ball Z
vs.
Miki Onimaru vs. Megumi Kannazuki, Ramen Fighter Miki

Goku and Vegeta, Dragon Ball Z
What I can say they are the most well known shonen rivalry in anime history. I think they at least deserve a first round win.
Group B-7
Nabuca vs. Shu, Now and Then, Here and There
vs.
Kyoko Mogami vs. Sho Fuwa, Skip Beat!

Kyoko Mogami vs. Sho Fuwa

I should know by now that NTHT is respected on these forums and will get the free pass for several rounds, but I found both of these characters to be very flat and single dimensional. Sure, they represent opposite side of two different ideologies, but beyond that I felt that both characters were very hollow, and the whole rivalry and relationship seemed stilted and contrived. I also know the latter quite well, and this rivalry drives a heartbroken girl to revenge and not to sorrow and tears like the typical shojo stereotypes dictate.

Group B-8
Inuyasha vs. Koga, Inuyasha franchise
vs.
Zatch Bell vs. Brago, Zatch Bell

Zatch Bell and Brago, Zatch Bell
Group B-9
Lelouch Lamperouge vs. Suzaku Kurugi, Code Geass
vs.
Tamahome vs. Makago, Fushigi Yugi

Lelouch Lamperouge and Suzaku Kurugi, Code Geass
War turns two childhood friends into ideological rivals and more importantly key figures on opposite sides of a global struggle for power.

Group B-10
Noir vs. Soldats, Noir
vs.
Sinon Kozuki vs. Dui Elroy, Starship Operators

Sinon Kozuki vs. Dui Elroy, Starship Operators

Group B-11
Kenji Harima vs. Haruki Hanai, School Rumble
vs.
Nanoha Takamachi vs. Vita, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A

Kenji Harima and Haruki Hanai, School Rumble
Heck, another vote said it well. This one of the best rivalries founded on a misunderstanding. Both sides don't want the same thing, but they think they do and many hijinks and laughs are the result.

Group B-12
Capulets vs. Lord Montague, Romeo x Juliet
vs.
Chika Akatsuki vs. Shito Tachibana, Zombie Loan

Capulets and Lord Montague, Romeo x Juliet

Group B-13
Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha franchise
vs.
Ban and Ginji vs. Dr. Jackal, Get Backers

Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru
Group B-14
Love Machine vs. Kenji Koiso and the Jinnouchis, Summer Wars
vs.
Speed Racer vs. Racer X, Speed Racer

Love Machine vs. Kenji Koiso and the Jinnouchis
A very unusual rivalry that pits a large close-knit family against hacker bent on destroying the digital world and harming the people within it.

Group B-15
Ouran High School Host Club vs. Zuka Club, Ouran High School Host Club
vs.
Three Goddesses vs. Mara, Ah!/Oh My Goddess franchise

Three Goddesses and Mara, Ah!/Oh My Goddess franchise

Familiar with and really don't want to vote for either choice. I'll lean towards the latter since at least there is some substance to the rivalry and it wasn't one of the weakest points from the show with the OHSHC rivalry.

Group B-16
Amuro Ray vs. Char Aznable, Mobile Suit Gundam
vs.
Saya vs. Diva, Blood+

Amuro Ray vs. Char Aznable

Dammit, I got sidetracked and am unable to post in time to have my votes count. Not that my vote would have helped much this late in the round. I was really hoping that Nemo vs Gargoyle would have fared much better than it has.

Round 1 Group B is now closed.

And with a pathetic 17 votes (this may be the lowest we've ever had in a first round Group), the results:

B-1: Digidestined vs. Myotismon wipes out Nemo vs. Gargoyle, 15-2.
B-2: Sailor Scouts vs. Queen Beryl eliminates Kira vs. Athrun, 11-6.
B-3: Le Secret du Roi vs. Revolutionary Brethren outduels Nanoha vs. Fate, 12-5.
B-4: Naruto vs. Sasuke dominates Shunan vs. Nugan, 13-4.
B-5: SNT Gatchaman vs. Galactor beats Mink vs. Veena, 13-4.
B-6: Goku vs. Vegeta obliterates Miki vs. Megumi, 14-3.
B-7: Nabuca vs. Shu tears a new one into Kyoko vs. Sho, 15-2.
B-8: Inuyasha vs. Koga takes out Zach vs. Brago, 11-6.
B-9: Lelouch vs. Suzaku stomps Tamahome vs. Nakago, 14-3.
B-10: Noir vs. Soldats assassinates Sinon vs. Dui, 14-3.
B-11: Kenji vs. Haruki overcomes a weak start to oust Nanoha vs. Vita, 11-6.
B-12: Capulets vs. Lord Montague destroy Chika vs. Shito, 15-2.
B-13: Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru bans Ban and Ginji vs. Dr. Jackal, 14-3.
B-14: Love Machine vs. Kenji and Jinnouchis hacks out Speed Racer vs. Racer X, 12-5.
B-15: Three Goddesses edge by OHSHC vs. Zuka Club, 9-8.
B-16: Amuro Ray vs. Char Aznable defeats Saya vs. Diva, 12-5.

So there were a lot of blow-outs this time, with the only match that was competitive late being B-15, which was decided on the final vote. Saya vs. Diva was winning in B-16 for a while, but the Gundam rivalry dominated the back end of the voting for an easy win. B-11 also played out that way. I doubt that any of these matches were a big surprise.

The low vote total is a big concern, even if we figure Beltane70 into the picture. We have at least a couple of new faces this time around, so where's everyone else?

Anyway, the next round is ready and should go up in just a few.

I had only completely seen four of the 32 shows and there were another two where I had seen just one episode. I didn't feel qualified to vote. This round has more shows I've seen, including one match-up where I've seen both.

Group C-1 Princess Tutu vs. Princess Krahe, Princess Tutu

Group C-2 Goku vs. Piccolo Jr., Dragon Ball

Group C-3 Kamina and Simon vs. Viral, Gurren Lagann
This feud has huge consequences for the series (spoiler[y'know, Kamina's death] and drives the plot for a good 3/4ths of the series during their encounters.

Group C-4 Kenichi Shirahama vs. Ragnarok, Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple

Group C-5 Yang Wen-Li vs. Reinhard von Lohengramm, Legend of the Galactic Heroes
This rivalry changes the very face of their world. Had this rivalry not existed in the series, the world at the end of the series would be much different. Not to mention that for two opposing sides both with geniuses, they really do acknowledge each other and view the other party as a threat, which makes the few space battles directly between them so incredibly epic!

Group C-6 Shirou Emiya vs. Archer, Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks

Group C-7 The Organization vs. Yoma/Awakened Beings, Claymore

Group C-8 Shiki Ryougi vs. Souren, Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners

Group C-9 Maya Kitejima vs. Ayumi Himekawa, Glass Mask
More people should really know about this series (and I need to finish watching what little Sentai put out, curse you Sentai, give me the rest!) These two girls are constantly pouring out their heart and souls into their acting, making this a very powerful rivalry where no side will give up and they certainly deserve to go far.

Group C-10 Ash Ketchum and Friends vs. Team Rocket Trio, Pokemon franchise
Sure, every encounter ends the exact same way but am I a sucker for Pokemon? Yes, yes I am.

Group C-11 Light Yagami vs. Near, Death Note

Group C-12 Kouga vs. Iga clans, Basilisk
These two clans have been waiting to fight each other to the death for what feels like eons, when they finally get the chance, they are merciless. After so much tension had been building between them, they sure give the audience quite a show and they relish every moment of defeating opposing team members like few other rivalries do.

Group C-13 Kai Ichinose vs. Shuhei Amamiya, Piano Forest
As entertaining as Lupin v Zenigata is, it's much like Ash v Team Rocket where you know Lupin is gonna come out on top. Kai vs Shuhei though is another really heartfelt contest where you have one piano player who is technically perfect vs one whose music just has so much soul in it he doesn't care if he plays the wrong piece so long as he moves the audience. Who should be considered the better player here when they're both so good in such different ways? I'm sure Lupin/Zenigata will win, but I really feel that Kai and Shuhei are the better and more interesting rivalry here.

Group C-14 Outlaw Star Crew vs. MacDougal Brothers, Outlaw Star

Maya Kitejima vs. Ayumi Himekawa, Glass Mask

Strike Witches vs. Neuroi, Strike Witches

Maya Kitejima vs. Ayumi Himekawa are one of the best rivals in anime. They are both likeable and well-developed and that is something I like seeing in series that have rivals. If I am invested in both characters, the drama, which is triggered by their conflict, can be extremely entertaining.

Princess Tutu vs. Princess Krahe, Princess Tutu

I have seen both of these rivalries in action, and Tutu and Krahe's relationship has a great deal more depth and meaning behind it. It has added depth in that they both in the same thing want the same thing--Mythos' happiness--and yet there is no way they can achieve it in the same way. For one to receive that happiness, the other must falter, and it plays out in a very meaningful way.
