Heh, I remember that movie quite vividly... "Moles" I wouldn't mind owning it myself. Still, my understanding is that those prices are from an outdated system, and that current renting systems no longer require an arm and a leg to buy their product... unless the said item is out of print, which is where the basis for that $54 may come from. |

Yeah, that might be true... Amazon.com has a mailing list for that movie so that they can inform you when it is available on DVD.

i love my RK DVDs.... 4 or 5 eps per disk. Two episodes per disk is such a god damned ripoff. WTF ADV.... I would've bought this series on DVD because its so damn good, but not when you pull this crap.

This is a very good point. If the MSRP is only $18, and Deep Discount DVD starts carrying this, it will be even cheaper. I'm not sure on how exact this math is, but after looking at a few of ADV's products on DDD, it appears most of their merchandise carries about a 40% discount off the MSRP. So with that in mind, if DDD continues this trend for Gantz, the price per DVD there should be around $10-11. This is just speculation, though, so don't get your hopes up too high just yet. |

Technically, isn't 1 episode of Gantz (50 minutes) the length of 2 episode of a regular anime? So if you're buying 2 episodes per DVD, that would approximately be the length of 4 episodes per DVD. This means that the anime as a whole would have a length of 52 episodes, even though its only listed as 26 episodes, because the episodes are double the normal length. In effect, you'd be paying $18 for the equivalent of 4 episodes, which is not a bad deal. If you really wanted 4 Gantz-length episodes on one disc, that would be 8 normal episodes worth of material.
Correct me if I'm wrong on this. |

The Encyclopedia says there's only 24 episodes (at 24 minutes a piece). And I haven't seen the series, so I don't know about the one 50 minute episode, but if there's only one episode that does this, it would make sense for maybe one DVD. But if each episode is only 24 minutes, then it's still just two episodes a DVD. |

Hm.. OK. After looking at the MSRPs for Vol.1 (w/ and without the box), my prediction for DDD will be:
$16.79 for the DVD + box. $10.79 for the DVD alone. (Minus 40% off the MSRP. You can check any of ADV's stuff on Deep Discount DVD to help confirm my suspicions, but remember, I'm not saying they DO have Gantz, yet ). |

Well, we better prod Tokyopop or DMP for that. I can't see the manga being released by ADV Manga's erratic schedule. |

I read this on the main page, though:
Would that only apply to the first DVD? Or does that mean that the DVD itself is only 50 minutes long, as opposed to each episode being 50 minutes long like I thought? |

If anyone who works for ADV reads this board, I have a suggestion to alleviate the problem. Find out if your rights to Gantz also include the tv edit of the show, sell that version on dvd first, and put more episodes of it on that dvd; but keep it barebones. Then release the home video version of Gantz later on, include whatever extras you originally intended for it, and call it the "Gantz: Special Edition", and slap a "too hot for Japanese tv" label on it. The fans get to see Gantz at a better price/episode ratio, and you get the opportunity to make more sales off the home video version of the series. Everyone wins. Problem solved.

It means the DVD is 50 minutes long with those two episodes. There was never an episode that was 50 minutes long. |

You're reading it wrong. "/" is commonly used to substitue for the word "per". The way it's written says that it is a "50 minute per 2 episode running time" or 50 minutes between two episodes. If they ment the other way it would have read something like, "Two 50 minute episodes". Emerje |
