If I have to see another slice of life,Harem I might vomit. Anime like Trigun,Requiem for a phantom,golgo,etc is what got me into anime. But all the new shows are constantly the same.Deadman Wonderland was somewhat entertaining. But I was bored with the much hyped Blue Exorcist.

When exactly did they get stuck in those genre's? I'm sure plenty of people would buy a show if they made something similar to Death Note,Golgo,etc. They have only made a few of those type of shows every few years and they seem to do well. But then they make like fifty harem shows.I don't know how people find that entertaining. Its all the same and predictable.They should at least try to make different harems. Like a harem with a serial killer lead. |

I have no reason to miss anyone who decides to wait around for anime to "get better" and just decides to abandon it altogether. Find some other hobby no one's forcing you to stick around.

Let me answer your question this way...
If I have to see another dark action show with a psycho villain I might vomit. Anime like Ranma, Tenchi Muyo, Love Hina, etc is what got me into anime. Gladly a number of shows take after these in different ways, while an action show can rarely create a bad guy that's anything but a sneering cliche. Deadman Wonderland was particularly excruciating. Although I was fine with the much hyped Blue Exorcist. I don't actually want to denigrate your taste, and I admit there may be more Slice of Live shows these days, but hey, there are those of us that are just fine with it. Besides, look at it this way, if the industry was flooded with the type of shows you like you'd get the same problem that the Slice of Life shows are having, there may be more than usual, but most of them are derivative and mediocre. |

Let me answer your question another way.
ANN has this great tool where you can search for anime by genre or theme: linky thing. If you do a search for harem / slice of life anime produced since 2009 you get 4 titles that fit both genres and a further 85 that fit one of them. If you do a search for action / drama for the same period you get 35 that fit both genres and a further 174 that fit one of them. The evidence doesn't bear out your assertion. |

That's like asking where are there no more space or sci-fi related anime series anymore. It is what it is, Don't watch it if you dont like it. It's not like someone is forcing you to watch these show. I never understood why people got upset about something they don't like. Just stop watching it and everything will be fine.

Slice of Life and Harem aren't really the same thing. They often go together, but they can be completely different as well (actually harem + comedy is a more common combination). However, while there are many shows from these genres (and they won't disappear that soon), there are also a lot of different ones. You just have to look at the complete lists for each season. Currently Tiger & Bunny is neither SoL nor harem. Same for Kaiji or No. 6 or Dantalian ... and that's just the shows that come to mind airing right now. In short, you just have to look more closely and you'll find other genres oO And also check out the older shows (even from last year), for sure there's a lot you haven't seen yet. |

We as a whole, never. You as an individual fan, well, as soon as you decide to stop subjecting yourself to them. They're not being force fed to you, and they are pretty easy to spot and avoid. I disagree with your claim of newer shows all being "constantly the same," there has been an increasingly larger number of variety being made lately plus there's a strew of older titles of different genres you likely haven't tapped into yet. And seriously, even if you didn't like Blue Exorcist, it does not belong in this grouping at all. It's no more slice of life or harem than Phantom was (though so far, it is written way better than the mess that Phantom was). |

In one word: never. As long as people keep watching them and buying the associated goods, they aren't going anywhere. You don't have to watch them though, there are plenty of other genres out there. Of all the shows I'm watching this season, only 1 is slice of life and 1 is reverse harem. There are more I'm not watching, but they're not SoL or harem either.

Neither of those shows are harem or slice of life. They are actually the same type of shows as the ones that got you into anime. It seems to me that what you are really saying is that the new shows of that type are not as good as the old shows of that type. That is certainly a valid opinion but it has nothing to do with harem or slice of life shows. As for the question in the thread title: "We" will stop seeing those shows when "we" stop watching them. |

Wait. Several anime got you into it and now you're complaining it's all the same? What? No, it's not "all the same" because you're only referencing a specific era in anime. In the 80s, you'd be complaining about all those damn mecha shows. In the 90s, it was the garbage being shoved out in buckets (and this is anime's peak, mind you). Now it's the gift of "slice of life and harem". I say gift because I'm one of those buyers. I love this era in anime and will take it for everything it gives. Eventually, it will change. I promise. We may see a few trickled series during the change, but eventually every studio will jump on the next big thing. That big thing looks like it'll be "Lolipalooza": anime starring little girls. Sometimes naked little girls. So, be very careful what you wish for. You may just get it. If you need a diversified collection, I highly recommend a fansub site and see for yourself just how much "crap" anime there really is out there. You've been warned.

I would have to say I don't like Ranma, but it was big in the fandom in the late 80's along with stuff like Orange Road. People with failry high end computers were lapping it up, in the late 80's. Look at this archive: http://ftp.sunet.se/pub/pictures/anime-manga/Ranma/Images/ These things often become more high profile than they should be, and are often oversold by the fans. I myself am astounded that it got more popular than other things around at the time.
