I, too, watched through most of Legend of the Galactic Heroes raw. This may seem utterly insane now--and to be fair, it is--but up until very recently--the last few years--that was the ONLY way to ever find out what happened past where the VHS fansubs stopped in the late 30s, and the series runs for 100+ episodes including the movies and side stories. There was no English-language information.

Unfortunately for me, the only way I was able to procure the entire show over a decade ago--this was before high-speed Internet, digital fansubbing, and BitTorrent were commonplace--was via Chinese bootleg VCDs...that were hard-subtitled in Chinese...such that the Chinese subtitles blocked out the captions at the bottom of the screen identifying who the characters were...

Fortunately, that's all moot now. People who want to see the series can now see all of it, just as easily as they can see everything else.

The episode count against LotGH is simply because of how old it is when trying to sell it to America. No one is going to license the first 13 episodes of a 100+ anime series to try to experiment on it. Also if it did fail and the company don't license the rest of the series than the fan base would just bitch about how evil that company is and how people should punish it by not buying their products.

I wouldn't call Imagawa's Giant Robo a remake, the plot was created entirely for the anime, the only characters that are from Giant Robo is Daisaku.

"We shouldn't remake something good" "Let's remake Nausicaa""Ooh Good idea"

I don't see Ghibli remaking Nausicaa because of how it was created, the manga was basically created so that Miyazaki could get money to make the movie. If Ghibli wanted to make a series of movies or tv series of Nausicaa they would have done it already. Compare that with Fullmetal Alchemist, where Square Enix commissioned the second anime to celebrate the ending of the manga and was done as the manga was wrapping up.

Thought I'd jump into the forum in case any one wanted to shoot me a question, call me a closet Nazi, etc. etc...

Hope to see some of the listeners at my Hetalia History panel at Anime Expo in a week, 2:45 pm in LP2 on Friday July 1! Also please check out my youtube channel as I hope in coming weeks to put up individual discussion clips on items I discuss in the panel, since many folks who might be interested may not be able to make the few conventions I am able to attend.

Great episode, it was very interesting as always hearing Walter talk(I also had heard him on the AWO podcast).

I really love LOGH, sad that it would never get pick up here. Since I know chinese, I'm currently buying the manga series of it (taiwan edition). http://search.books.com.tw/exep/prod_search.php?cat=all&key=銀河英雄傳說+

I can't believe Chase Wang agreed to be on the show after the way you guys talked about him last week. Anyways, he sounds kind of naive. I'm very interested in seeing what kind of profit they make on this. Also, that Walter Amos guy was extremely boring. I don't know if it's just cause i'm not into LOGH, but I was literally falling asleep. I didn't even get around finishing the interview till this morning.

Back to watching the entire segment, and Chase Wang comes off as passive aggressive, he complains about AX ticketing, and Miku (mentioning that all of his guests are alive) and then mentions that he doesn't mean to be mean.

Great show, guys! I wish Chase Wang the best of luck with AM2. Cons are doing relatively well compared to the actual anime industry, so it made sense for him to make the jump in becoming the owner and operator of a convention than stay and be a hand for a organization that allegedly mistreated him and his fellow companions. As it relates to Star Blazers being a hub for the greatest generation in anime fandom, that is debatable depending on your view of greatness. As it relates to early titles that paved a way for future generations, that is an honor it most certainly deserves along with fandoms within Astro Boy, Gatchaman (which was Battle of the Planets at that time before going through its numerous changes) and Mazinger Z (Tranzor Z) [undeniably commendable in terms of setting the bar]. When it comes to progressive appeal, the 80s had a mixture of game changing titles and profitability before the 90s brought tremendous profit, numerous titles on television, and legions of fans. I think what's cool is the last four decades of anime had fans that were very passionate while the 2000s to today shows a bit of nonchalance. But then it happens in most fandoms that span over the years.

Yeah I got the same feeling from that segment. I mean not having known anything about him before hand(aside from hearing his name tossed around a few times on the ANNcast) This whole thing made me not like him. Just the way he seems to act to me makes me think he is bitter about AX but then puts on his PR face and takes little stabs at them instead of saying how he feels(Even going as far as to not say AX calling them the "Other group") The whole Miku comment as well came of as Douchey. I mean like her or not he has to know how big a deal her being there is going to be and it seemed he was trying to take wind out of the sail out of spite.

I think what cemented it for me was his comment when Zac was trying to get serious on the date thing and next years convention, when he refused to relent the tiniest bit that the same day might be a problem and says something like they will know which to go to.
I just get a feeling it's going to be the same way next year.

Chase Wang did sound a bit douchey when talking about AX, oh and btw AX does have an Arcade!!! I laughed when Zac asked him if he was accusing AX the hacking incident lol. AM2 focuses too much on musical acts and screening anime but lacks panels but maybe I'll go next time if they set a different date that is not the same week as AX!

I have taken an interest in LOGH but have yet to watch, but it is a series I know I would love to own and have on my shelf and the novels too. And Rheinhard, you are lucky to meet your Idols!! I wish I can be in your situation someday.

I am sadden that Sy-Fy won't air Star Blazers no more Sad
I would like someone to re-make Twilight of the Dark Master, they could have done so much with that story, felt to empty or short but the animation was cool.

I'm eagerly looking forward to attending your panel, ever since I saw it on the schedule a few days ago.
I am in fact a teenage girl, but I got into Hetalia for how much fun it made my AP European History class. I and a friend did a video project using little paper cut-outs of the characters discussing various things.

The longer the segment with Chase Wang went on, the less genuine I found his words to be. It's like every word out of his mouth was calculated to sell his product. At times it felt like he was treating this as an infomercial.
