If the age things is correct, it appears it can be prose and not need an illustration as one of the DMP books was actually a novel and not a manga. I was informed by someone who worked on it that the illustrations were not that explicit. Still trying to get to the bottom of it all. Amazon responded but it was vague as expected. You can see their response in the comments section of my post: http://theyaoireview.com/2011/05/03/yaoi-news-kindle-bans-some-yaoi-titles/ |

I for one am glad I don't support Amazon's Kindle (seriously a reading device that literally locks you into a company who keeps jacking up the price of their e-books?). I'm happy with my sony reader - better hardware, touchscreen and don't have to contend with Amazon. I can grab books anywhere I want.
Anyways, if it proves that Amazon is setting a double standard by scrutinizing yaoi content more closely than non-yaoi content then it really wouldn't be that uncommon. I know the Canadian customs often scrutinizes gay content media a lot more than heterosexual content and will more likely seize gay content media than it's straight counterpart as reported from Canadian bookstores that specialize in gay content literature. |

Thank you for this information. I'm trying to confirm IF it is a young characters issue that they are censoring on ALL sides. Again, we don't know for sure but I'm compiling all the information I can. |

This is just painfully sad, and pathetically homophobic of Amazon. They are a content PROVIDER. Let the people choose what they want and do not want to consume.

Well, I could barely glance at this, but this item at Amazon seems pretty het and suspect: NOT NOT NOT Safe for work or minors ~~~ www.amazon.com/Asian-Girls-Hentai/dp/B0032FO4S4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=digital-text&qid=1304534569&sr=1-1 |

It may not be an issue of gay material but I am finding some underage het material so... Without knowing how many titles from both gay and straight were pulled, it's hard to say 100% and they know that. |

I'm compiling a list right now. I'm also trying to get samples of each so I can 100% confirm but it depends on how much of a sample they give. There is definitely underage het in the Amazon KINDLE store and it's package the same way the yaoi stuff is... high school characters that are now college girls, yet they're getting detention? http://www.amazon.com/Hentai-Erotica-Schoolgirl-Stories-ebook/dp/B00387FGUG/ref=pd_sim_kinc_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2 Last I checked, they don't give detention in college. |

I don't know, I read most Yaoi is for women who like seeing 2 men, not for gay people. Gay manga gets labed "Gay" in Japan instead. This was some kind of shock to me to find out because I found out a lot of Japanese gay guys are kind-of offended by a lot of Yaoi.

So Faces of Death isn't offensive?

.. I don't think that's the case. Like I mentioned with earlier links about purely written incest erotica titles that were removed , they will remove anything on the Kindle, seemingly randomly, they think is "offensive" (after all, their terms allow it). The infamous, written, non-fiction, non-sexual, "pedo love/understanding" book was eventually removed as well, even when they initially said they would not with their hypocritical freedom-of-speech spiel! From the research done by the previous authors of banned or removed works, the "seemingly random" part appears to be more of: if it ever becomes popular enough in ranking, or somehow catches attention (automatically becomes featured or something like that) and definitely if people report it, then they will look, and likely ban, Judging from existing content (what has not been banned) and the terms, regular nude imagery, and "non-offensive" sexual themes, written or imagery seem to make the cut... again, unless there are complaints against it. One of the disadvantages about Kindle, aside from being purely under Amazon's control and the DRM is that you never actually own a book. Any title that is removed or even simply goes "out of print" is also removed from your Kindle after you've bought it.
Depends on who you talk to. Could be they just resent the fact that women are making these (although there some male mangaka). Erotica artists (nsfw) who are gay males themselves don't mind
.. but really, when they say they can remove something because they deem it offensive, I pretty sure they don't mean offensive to the LGBT community. Last edited by configspace on Wed May 04, 2011 2:47 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Amazon removing illegal stuff by themselves? Unfathomable! Why bother with this stuff while its store is still filled with bootlegs? Clearly someone had a problem with "gay porn cartoon" and took it to religious lengths. |

One of the DMP titles was rejected, meaning it was never on the site to begin with. I think they are gradually changing what is acceptable and what isn't and when they are doing something about it. They are clearly scrutinizing new titles before popularity can be determined or complaints can be made. The one title that was outright rejected was a yaoi novel so someone took the time to read it before determining it was unacceptable for the KINDLE. Plus, over the last 30 days there have been a lot of titles pulled. I don't think that's coincidence. |

Looks like they're taking the same position as the Ishihara ban... In Japan you can have mindless fanservice smut like ToLoveRu published without ADULT ONLY logo.....but yaoi themes and incest relationships found in regular teen shoujo manga are a no-no now without ADULT ONLY logo. |

also, In Japan and unlike U.S., manga authors and publishers are still free to print sexploitation manga featuring (no holds barred) characters of all (percieved) ages... just don't forget to embed THIS LOGO on the front cover and make sure it's placed in the APPROPRIATE CORNER or SHELF
