AnimeNation is proud to announce its entry into the official translation and distribution of Japanese animation, more commonly known as "anime," in the American marketplace with the acquisition of "Omishi Magical Theater: Risky Safety" (Omishi Mahou Gekijou Risky Safety). AnimeNation is committed to bringing this wonderful and charming contemporary classic to English speaking viewers with a DVD exclusive release that will appeal to casual anime viewers and attract devoted anime aficionados. Risky Safety will be the debut release from newly created AN Entertainment, AnimeNation's home entertainment subsidiary devoted to providing Japanese animation to English speaking viewers.

Is anyone else as utterly jazzed about this as I am?

Just think... an online anime retailer breaking into the industry. Just a hardcore group of fans with enough dedication and determination to grow from an organized fandom hub into an official production powerhouse. A penultimate example of the Tortise beating the Hare.

Dare I start making references to Gainax? Very Happy

Risky Safety really doesn't look like it would be my cup of tea, but I think I might just buy it anyway.

No. I'm not "jazzed." I don't like AN and I don't like most of their policies. I don't even like most of the people that work there :/

MAN THEY'RE JUST RIPPIN' OFF WHAT RIGHT STUF DID YEARS EARLIER

Only Right Stuf had quality titles like Irresponsible Captain Tylor and, currently, His and Her Circumstances.

Penultimate means second best. Anyway, hardcore fans doin' it their way sometimes results in stuff like Tokyopop's excreable version of Spring & Chaos.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The press release sounds promising, but as Manga has proven time and again, a promising press release means nothing.

The show sounds cute, the release format sounds decent (24 half-length episodes on 3 discs), and the promotional website is decent.

The DVD release sounds very nice, so far. Reversable covers, loads of extras, and liner notes are all very appealing. They're basing their translation on a fansub script, which should provide some interesting results.

I couldn't care less about AN Entertainment's relationship with AN, since all I care about is the quality of the DVD.

From Gene, the owner himself:

The episodes in this are 10 minute eps, so that's 8 on a DVD for 80 minutes a disc.

We're sure you won't be disappointed with the dub voices, it will be a well known studio.

Before you ask, we're shooting for a July release on the first disc.

And since I know AN has a tendancy to screw things up....I'll just remain pessimistic until I see it.

If by "jazzed" you mean "completely and utterly flabbergasted with my jaw to the floor in surprise at this unexpected announcement", then yes I am jazzed. This feels unreal.

Hey, Tempest, when do WE start licensing anime? Anime smile

Your first title had better be Kodomo no Omocha.

You've been warned.

I wonder who's producing the dub? Ocean Group? Coastal Carolina? Dub-Track Jones and the Special Needs Theatre Ensemble? Somebody's role-playing group with an eight-track home studio?

Screw that, I still want Samurai Pizza Cats on DVD!! Laughing Eh, maybe Kodocha after that. Wink

Back on topic, I'm happy, I've been wanting to see Risky & Safty outside of a few fansubs for a while.

Darn, and here I thought you guys wanted Violinist Hamelyn as much as I did. Wink

But this AN deal sounds promising. While I can't say that the series grabs me, and I do agree that this smacks of another Manga Entertainment, we must also see the possibility that it could be another Animeigo or Urban Vision, a company that while not monied strives to put out quality products that fans want.

are you gonna put it on WB when Yu Gi Oh isn't popular anymore? I think it would be cool seeing all the kids of america carrying around Gobans and talking Go strategies.

That's only if the 24/7 webcast and AOL Time Warner takeover don't secure a nationwide Hikaru no Go lunchbox craze.
