Alright, so how much do you think the film will make this weekend? http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=ghostintheshell.htm says the film made $2,000 on opening weekend, so hopefully, this baby will gross around $150,000 this time around. Who's with me?j

Probably $250,000. Though the dvd sales will be great.

Well, there's not that many prints going out, 150 if I recall

$10,000/screen is fantastic for a huge blockbuster, and this is showing in mostly smaller theaters. $250-400,000 would be a great take on this one. I'm guesstimating $150-200,000[/quote]

That surprises me considering the limited release. The DVD sales will be astronomical for an anime.

Do you think that's what Go Fish was expecting or is there a chance that they'll put it in more theaters than planed?

I'm willing to be that they'll be looking at shifting the existing prints around. That's typical for such a small release. It'll play 3-4 weeks and then move it

I'm just wondering if the unusually high gross for Innocence had anything to do with the low turn-out for Sky Captain.

Was turnout that low for Sky Captain, all factors considered? Looking at Box Office Mojo, and the numbers for this weekend (2 weekends after Labor Day weekend), Sky Captain looks like the turnout made sense. Last year looks like an aberration with Underworld that weekend, and so many movies over $10M. The turnout might have been relatively low compared to what people expected, but it doesn't seem that surprisingly low.

Innocence had some strong visible advertising in some places. For example, it always struck me that there were a lot of ads for it on Rotten Tomatoes. People perhaps just wanted to see what the 2nd incarnation of the film was about, and the screens were limited enough that people had to pack a few theatres deeper.

The extended audience from SAC and the Matrix probably helped too.

Its opening weekend stats are:

Opening Weekend: $317,722
(47 theaters, $6,760 average)
% of Total Gross: 92.9%

Currently, it has made $342,113, and BOJ members rate it a C+
