Maybe it is the kid in me, but your complaints about volume 4 of Toriko only elicited a response of "Why are you complaining about these things?"

Sunny and Mansom are just collections of superpowers? So?!

Toriko only eats a lot of things and punches a lot of things? This is a problem why?!

Just one exaggerated fight after another while trying to find a mammoth the size of a space shuttle?

I just, I don't detect a problem here ...

Now that NG Life is up to V. 8, it's clearly been a while since I wrote the review. But now that it's just one volume away from the conclusion, it has now reached a most gripping climax where spoiler[Keidai is put to the ultimate test in choosing between his memories and Mii, in a state of confusion of which is more truly more precious.] Since this is Tokyopop, meaning this series will not stay in print for long, anyone who's interested in this series better start collecting it soon.

I'm going to have to agree with nottimkai with this one. Normally, I take ANN's manga reviews in stride but I feel like this time around in regards to Toriko, it's turning into plain nitpicking. Toriko may be a whole bunch of punching, kicking and screaming but its storyline and its world is slowly being developed like any other Jump manga. Even One Piece, the biggest selling manga in history had its slow starts with Luffy just going from island to island building up his crew before the real workings of the world started to make itself known.

As someone who is caught up with the current publication of Toriko, this is starting to become more prevalent. There is more information about the world that Toriko inhabits, the real significance of the Gourmet Age and its ingredients and the motives of the Gourmet Corp. And best of all? The manga is just plain FUN! Something that we're not seeing a lot in manga nowadays when most manga is about emo conflicts or ridiculous love triangles.

So I'm still puzzled as to why this particular volume had to get a C-. You'd think with all the over-the-top action, it could've gotten at least a B- or B average.

I definitely agree with the assessment of Genkaku Picasso, which is a shame since it actually sounded like a very interesting premise. But other than the art thing is really just cookie cutter shonen fare which is something I just don't care for (it was pretty crazy for me to be buying a book under the Shonen Jump imprint when I got volume one).

However, if you do like shonen I definitely would recommend the series.

You just truly inspired me to keep trying with Toriko, I gave it a chance when it started and didn't particularly like it, but after reading this I'm definitely giving it another shot!

Toriko is a fun manga. It is not a work of art, by any stretch of the imagination, but gosh darn, does it entertain.

Good for you giving it another shot!

Just embrace the silliness! It will do you good.
