The title may be hyperbole, but the work itself (NSFW site) is fascinating nonetheless.

It is fun to watch this and see how many of the image clips you can identify. (Watch it before reading the article which lists them.) I found myself knowing an amazing number.

Another way to look at is is what did they not include. Enjoy.

Fortunately, all major anime have access to at least 8 hair colours

So untrue. First GTO's OP was black and white.

First thing I thought about was Ghost Hunt, followed by Mushi-shi, and Darker Than Black.

WAIT

wait wait wait wait

...

[sarcasm]so anime is full of cliches? This is the first I am hearing of this! [/sarcasm]

I really loved all the running and the oh so popular looking off into the distance. Great video

I think you should include a NSFW warning since it links too Sankaku

And this video was neat, but I really don't think it's contents should be considered a big knock against anime. I mean, any culture in general has it's own list of images that are just too deeply ingrained not to include...

...the "throw crap at the camera" one seems to be becoming popular in America recently...for some reason...

So yeah, they are a bit cliche, but I don't think that should mean they can't be fun regardless...and you COULD more or less call OPs a prime example of "don't judge a book by it's cover"

Interesting, but I don't find it particularly surprising.

When you break down practically any kind of media into its constituent elements, visual or otherwise, you'll find that there is literally nothing new under the sun. This goes for animation as well as for live action series all across the world.

What matters is not this simple fact but rather what is or isn't done with those preexisting elements.

Fun, but so what, they might say that it is just the same techniques over and over again. Isn't it like common knowledge of useing techniques to convey things in the opener useing these type of images. Is it really such a bad thing to use proven artsistic methods in the openings, isn't that partially the whole point of a lot of artistic studying.

@ Egoist
I too immeditly thought of Ghost Hunt who use absolutly none of these techniques.

It's also really boring unfortunately. It's like the opening to some old western horror-anthology show (Tales from the Darkside, Dark Shadows) except it goes on for about 45 seconds too long

But it is suposed to set the mood, you can also see a bunch of ghostly figures or places in it, especially in the second half. It scared my sister a bit it did.

It also has a very imainative name, that it is called "Main Theme", they also applied that same amount of creativity for the Endings name calling it "End Theme". They should definetly be held high for their creativity.

What is it with anime and running? What type of conspiracy is going on between Nike and anime?

@ KanjiiZ
I assume running symbolises action, adventure and things like that, often the music also used in unison to help convey the intended message. Such as in TMOHS the songs name "Bouken Deshou Deshou" starts with her running and the name translating to "It's an "Adventure Right? Right?".
Also common with them running towards something, these may be a goal, something to Protect, or a place of action.

If you want to know flying can mean freedom or getting to "higher places".

I assume you didn't watch Ghost Hunt for the suspense? That opening sounded awesome at 4am right after a scary episode.
Of course, it's not like I call those who watch suspense/horror while the sun is blasting outside a fool or anything like that...
Nothing like the everlasting feeling of accomplishment I had after finishing Ghost Hunt in the perfect mood. Which eventually led me to Higurashi (which by the way, had an awesome unique opening). Good days. Good days indeed. I mean, night. NIGHTS!

And that there are bird droppings falling down, so watch out.

Oops you're right. I never posted a NSFW link before this so I guess I did not have the right reflexes developed.

And I read sankaku just for the articles.

I find something a bit more remarkable in this than what these observations suggest.

Note how many of us can identify which anime a 1500 millisecond clip came from with an accuracy rate over 90%. Fifty or more of them in rapid succession. Where the artwork includes just some birds flying or one of the character's hands. Where we didn't study the subject at all -- just watched the shows and more probably than not SKIPPED the opening after seeing once or twice.

If all the animes are just EXACTLY THE SAME as each other then how is that possible?
