A super, suuuper sad story. I honestly almost cried watching it, but that's how you know it's a job well done. It's a compilation of three episodes meshed into one hour, so I highly recommend it to those who are just sitting around on a Saturday morning or can't sleep on a Friday night. Actually I think watching at night is a little better, though I can't explain why. Because it's so compacted due to the nature of the movie, I also recommend reading the manga for some clarification after, not before please because the movie's the original, as it does add to the movie and provide an alternate ending. I would classify this title as a slice of life or romance, so for those hooked on action or other types might find the plot a little slow for their tastes. |

I try not to give out too many masterpieces but Angel Beats definitely earns its right. The plot is original to say the least, what with a group of kids in a school in the afterlife fighting against a higher power. The character art, though kinda cliched and totally anime-y, is very easy on the eyes. An awesome, and I really stress the awesomeness here, aspect of this anime is that it incorporates a band, much like K-On! does, but less central to the storyline. Needless to say, the music is absolutely awesome. That's the good type of fanservice. Heck, I would buy a pillowcase of the band members with their clothes on, just cause their music is that good! Moving on though, Laughter is there, seriousness is there, and though it's a slice of life, yes I really think so, there are some unique aspects to it that can only be found in an anime like this one (Don't wanna spoil anything). There is some action, but honestly, that's not what Angel Beats is about. Like seriously, the ANN summary makes it sound like an epic fight for the world, but in reality it's totally not. That doesn't stop it from being a great anime all around though. |

Anyone who hasn't seen this before graduating from high school or some kind of school where people end up spitting apart, watch it before it's too late! This is good drama at its peak and no lie, it's tear-jerking. But not in a sad way. This is an anime where you cry cause you're HAPPY. No lie. The happiness is JUST THAT OVERWHELMING. Just kidding. But in all seriousness this isn't the sad tragedy of unrequited love. It isn't the epic tale of two lovers overcoming all obstacles either. It's just a simple story of a group of friends finding their way again. And it's that simplicity that makes it all the more sweeter. Totally recommended for everyone, just cause I honestly think everyone can relate to it. And the ending song is simply perfect for the situation and a great song in its own right. |

Something is wrong with the top 10 anime list on this site because this isn't number 1. Okay, well I can understand that it's not for everyone, but if I had my say, this would definitely be the number one all-time anime. The plot is absolutely amazing, twists and gasps at every turn, and really, when an anime gets a drawn out alternate universe timeline just for itself, well, that's really saying something. Another notable thing is that it incorporates soooo many genres; there's romance, comedy, slice of life, drama, mecha, action, psychological, and even a hint at a harem, all in one anime, and one can't help but wonder, how does a single anime manage to put all of it into one anime? Well, strictly speaking it pretty much focuses on drama and action, but it's all there, and well done too. The themes are deep too, no really, they're deeeep, and it manages to tie up all loose ends by episode 50, forming a really well-developed story. Well, there's one question left unsolved, but hey, you can't have all the answers right? Definitely recommended for every single person on this planet, I think it's just that great. |
