ouatic-7's Anime
Seen all▲▼ | Rating▲▼ | Comment▲▼ |
Avenger (TV) | Decent | Something about no children being born on Mars and Mars dying and stuff. The ending was incomprehensible but I liked the theme song. |
Bastard!! (OAV) | Not really good | Abruptly stops just when the story is getting started. A little too '80s. |
Berserk (TV 1997) | Good | Really gruesome. Good music. Substantially different from the manga. |
Cardcaptor Sakura (TV) | Very good | My husband said, "I'm embarrassed to watch it but not for the usual reasons." One of the few Clamp shows I could sit through, it's about a a nice girl chasing nice cards being looked after by her "mean" older brother who is really overly protective. |
Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie | Decent | CCS in Hong Kong. Like most anime movies, comes up a bit lacking next to the show. |
Castle in the Sky (movie) | Good | Miyazaki; all you need to know. |
(The) Cat Returns (movie) | Good
Chinese Ghost Story (Chinese movie) | Very good | Animation from Tsui Hark. Any Tsui Hark is worth a look. |
Chrono Crusade (TV) | Very good | New York in the 1920s, nun fights demons with her demon sidekick. What's not to like. |
City Hunter (live-action movie 1992) | Good | Jackie Chan. Slapstick. I liked it but parts make me cringe. |
Cowboy Bebop (TV) | Good | Great music, great characters, grim ending. |
Cowboy Bebop: The Movie | Very good | CB TV less the grim ending. |
Cromartie High School (TV)
Crying Freeman (live-action movie) | Good | Follows 1st volume of manga very closely but gives it a less insane ending. Same director as "Brotherhood of the Wolf" and stars a scantily clad Mark Dacascos (yum!). |
Darkside Blues (movie) | Good | Weird stuff happens. There's lots of unexplained backstory hinted at that I really wish was filled in. |
ERASED (TV) | Good | |
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (movie)
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (US CG movie) | Weak | Boring. |
Flame of Recca (TV) | Decent | Figting anime. It seemed very derivative. |
FLCL (OAV) | Good | Need to watch sometime with a sub that isn't translated from the Japanese via Chinese. |
Fruits Basket (TV 1/2001) | Very good | The climactic ending of the anime is like volume 5 of the manga. I liked it but it is really sappy. |
Full Metal Panic! (TV) | Very good
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TV) | Excellent
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV) | Excellent | Much lighter than FMP. |
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) | Excellent | All Kickass women all the time. OK, sometimes there's the bishy Ed and his boss Roy but it's really all about the women. |
Future Boy Conan (TV) | Excellent | Miyazaki reworks the craptastic book "The Terrible Tide" into a fantastic 26 episodes. |
Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo (TV) | Good | At a 1000+ pages a lot of the detail gets omitted when "The Count of Monte Cristo" is translated to the screen. The makers of Gankutsuou have solved that by starting in the middle with Festivale in Venice, except it's actually on the Moon because this is the far future. Very different technique used for clothing and backgrounds. THis is the first, and only so far, anime I have seen where the rich folk's homes actually look opulent. |
Gasaraki (TV) | So-so | Something about giant robots and extraterrestrials and being possessed and cloning ... My husband says that in the interest of full disclosure I must admit that while I sat through all episodes, some of them several times, I wasn't necessarily conscious the entire time. |
Gate Keepers (TV) | Good | |
Gate Keepers 21 (OAV) | Decent
Generator Gawl (TV) | Good
Genshiken (TV) | Excellent
Geobreeders (OAV) | So-so
Getbackers (TV) | Some episodes are really good but then they go and chibify Ginji and make me grind my teeth.
Ghost in the Shell (movie) | Good
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (movie) | So-so
(The) Gokusen (TV) | Good
Grenadier (TV) | Decent | Off put by the enormous bosoms (we're talking basketball size) but captured by the opening battle between soldiers with feudal weaponry and guys with modern guns. |
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka (TV) | Good | Bowdlerized from the manga but still entertaining. |
GTO: The Movie (live-action movie) | Decent
Gungrave (TV) | Decent | The love story of two gangsters. They have a falling out but their love transcends death. There is a rat-faced guy, Gary, who'd be played by Steve Buscemi in the live action movie, who I kept expecting to betray Brandon just because of his looks. In an American show or most anime he would have been the turncoat. Gungave gets points for Gary being less bad than most of the characters. |
Hajime no Ippo (TV) | ||
Hajime no Ippo - Champion Road (special)
Hajime no Ippo - Mashiba vs. Kimura (OAV)
Hellsing (TV) | Good | |
Hikaru no Go (TV) | Very good
Hikaru No Go: New Year Special | Very good
Howl's Moving Castle (movie) | Excellent | Haven't seen the sub yet but it's Miyazaki. |
Initial D (TV) | Good | |
Initial D (live-action movie) | Decent | see my review at NotComingSoon.com. |
Initial D: Fourth Stage (TV) | Decent
Initial D: Second Stage (TV) | Decent
Initial D: Third Stage (movie) | Good
Inuyasha (TV) | Very good
InuYasha the Movie 2: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass | Decent
InuYasha the Movie 3: Swords of an Honorable Ruler | Good | More satisfying than the next one! |
InuYasha the Movie 4: Fire on the Mystic Island | Weak | Didn't find it as satisfying as the sword one. One of the problems was they just put Sess in without him interacting with any of the Inu Tachi. It was plain he was added because of his fan base and no other reason. They should have just left him out. There was one good line. Clay!Kikyo scolds Inuyasha for not wanting to kill a clone of the original Kikyo, "an abomination" (the clone that is). I thought, "There speaks the pot." |
InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time | Good | Strangely addictive. |
(The) Irresponsible Captain Tylor (TV) | Very good | Least shots fired in a climactic space battle between two immense armadas. So, is Tylor just lucky or is he superlatively cunning? |
Jing, King of Bandits: Seventh Heaven (OAV) | Very good | Good but hard to follow which makes it a lot like the manga. |
Jing: King of Bandits (TV) | Very good
Jubei-Chan 2: The Counterattack of Siberia Yagyu (TV) | Good | Yagyu Jubei's daughter is pissed that she didn't inherit the lovely eyepatch. |
Jubei-Chan The Ninja Girl - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch (TV) | Good | Jubei is infested with the spirit of Yagyu Jubei. The only magical girl anime I've seen where the girl is more covered after her transformation. Very enjoyable. |
Karas (OAV) | Decent | |
Kaze no Yojimbo (TV) | Good | Started out a little measured for my taste but I have become accustomed as the plot becomes more intricate. |
Kiddy Grade (TV) | Good | |
Kiki's Delivery Service (movie) | Very good
Knight Hunters (TV) | Decent
Knight Hunters Eternity (TV) | Decent
Kuromukuro (TV) | Good | |
L/R: Licensed by Royalty (TV) | Not really good | Good music. Duff show. |
Laid-Back Camp (TV) | Very good
Last Exile (TV) | Excellent | Gorgeous and an ending that is actually comprehensible. |
Legend of Basara (TV) | Good | Another anime that cuts off abruptly without resolving the story. |
Lime-iro Senkitan (TV) | So-so
Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart to Hades (live-action movie) | Who wouldn't want a perabulator with scythes on the wheels and built in pole-arms?
Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (live-action movie) | Who wouldn't want a perabulator with scythes on the wheels and built in pole-arms?

One Piece: The Movie | ||
Orphen (TV) | ||
Otogi Zoshi (TV) | Good | |
Outlaw Star (TV) | ||
Planetes (TV) | Excellent | A space anime without robots. It's about whether space exploration is worth the cost in lives. It is about who should reap the wealth to be found. It's about whether white collar or blue collar jobs are more important. That makes it sound dry but Planetes isn't. Seriously, this is one of the best shows ever. |
Porco Rosso (movie) | Masterpiece
Prétear (TV) | Fairly typical Magical Girl anime.
(The) Prince of Tennis: A Day on Survival Mountain (OAV) | Decent
Princess Blade (live-action movie 2001) | Weak
Princess Mononoke (movie)
R.O.D -The TV- | ||
Read or Die (OAV) | ||
Requiem from the Darkness (TV)
Rurouni Kenshin (TV 1996)
Rurouni Kenshin: The Motion Picture
Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal (OAV)
S-CRY-ed (TV) | ||
Saiyuki (TV) | ||
Saiyuki Reload (TV) | The art style is much different from Saiyuki and the voices are different. It's hard to become accustomed.
Samurai Champloo (TV) | ||
Samurai Deeper Kyo (TV) | I enjoyed this but they wrapped up a story in 26 episodes for a manga that is on its 30+ volume and still going.
Shura no Toki: Age of Chaos (TV) | Each story arc concerns a different generation of the Mutsu family and there interactions with history except the Meiji Restoration arc has turned into "I Love Sakamoto Ryoma". Oddly cheerful considering the amount of death and dismemberment.
(The) SoulTaker (TV) | ||
Speed Grapher (TV) | Decent | Nicely done goodish guys, bad guys and really, really evil guys. |
Spiral (TV) | ||
Spirited Away (movie) | Excellent
Steamboy (movie) | So-so
(The) Super Dimension Fortress Macross (TV)
Tactics (TV) | Good | |
Tenchi in Tokyo (TV) | ||
Tenjho Tenge (TV) | Decent
Trigun (TV) | Excellent | |
tsuritama (TV) | Very good
(The) Twelve Kingdoms (TV) | Decent
Vandread (TV) | Good | |
Vandread: The Second Stage (TV) | Good
Volcano High (live-action movie)
Whisper of the Heart (movie)
Witch Hunter Robin (TV)
Wolf's Rain (TV) | It was never really clear to me whether the wolves human forms were an illusion or what. Sometimes they seemed to be an illusion sometimes the wolves seemed to have physically changed. This irritated me.
Wolf's Rain (OAV) | Downer ending, I think. I couldn't really follow what the heck happened.
X (movie) | Bad | |
Yu Yu Hakusho The Movie: Poltergeist Report (movie 2/1994)
Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files (TV) | Excellent | The king of all juvenile delinquent dies and saves the world animes. |
