It looks like I've triggered an algorithm that has identified me as someone who consistently tries to manipulate the percentages either up or down. Oh, well.....

I try to add enlightening commentary, but let's face it:
I'm far from perfect.

    EDIT: 2020-12-31
I have seen two three videos that examine the concept of "classics" from distinctly different perspectives:
  1. Gigguk | Garnt Maneetapho

  2. Mother's Basement | Geoff Thew

  3. Bonsai Pop | Mike ?
EDIT: 2020-04-11
In this video YouTube user Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho) talks about SAO in the context of gateway anime.
2 Videos That Share a Common Theme:
  1. "The Greatest Thing Anime Has Done"|Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho)
  2. "A Love Letter to a Place Further than the Universe" | Isla McTear (Line/link added 2020-06-24)

Anime only continues to get more and more mainstream, but these are 10 anime we wouldn't want to recommend even though they're great.

Seen/Read All (public list) Rating
Outbreak Company (TV) Excellent
Outlaw Star (TV) Very good (edit.dub & sub)
Pro: Nice OP & EDs!
Con: I know that comparing it with Cowboy Bebop is unfair, but Bebop has the better ending.
Overlord (TV) Excellent (dub & sub)
Even though it doesn't explain how Momonga got trapped in the game and couldn't log out, I found the action to be quite exciting! The OP is great, as well!

Because the studio Madhouse produced this, there is unlikely to be a 2nd season.....

Overlord II (TV) Excellent (dub), Masterpiece (sub)
Pros:
  • Great OP & ED!
  • Great OST! (BGM)
  • The animation is great!
  • morally compromised characters
Con: I really didn't care for the farce being acted out in episode #13 by the morally compromised characters.
Overlord III (TV) Excellent (dub), Masterpiece (sub)
see episode reviews
So now Ains is morally compromised.....
Rebecca Silverman's review is more eloquent than what I might write.
Pale Cocoon (OAV) Excellent
Paprika (movie) Very good (dub & sub)
Pro: The OP & ED are great!
Con: In my opinion, Dr. Atsuko Chiba loses her agency to (Japanese) structure in the very last scene -- she isn't even in it!
Patema Inverted (movie) Excellent (dub & sub)

This is the expanded version of the ONA series.
  • 20:30 interesting use of OST.....
  • 23:25 nice graphics/animation
  • Would have rated at 11/11 (Masterpiece) but the plot just wasn't quite good enough.....
  • The dub is remarkably good.....
    ADR Director: Stephanie Sheh
    Assistant ADR Director: Anthony Tortorici
Patema Inverted: Beginning of the Day (ONA) Very good
This is the original version that was expanded upon in the movie.
Patlabor 2: The Movie (movie 2) Very good (dub & sub)
Patlabor: The Movie (movie 1) Weak (dub), Decent (sub)
Perfect Blue (movie)
Pet Shop of Horrors (TV) Good (dub & sub)
Pros:
  • Psychological depth.
  • I always admire internal monologues.
Cons:
  • Animation has not aged well.
  • How does the detective not notice the flying bat???!!!
  • Maybe it's just me, but a detective just would not act that way. Also, what's with the miniskirt?
Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ (TV) Decent (dub), Good (sub)
  • CON: Zwei improbably survives being shot.
  • PRO: Deaths prior to ep.#20 are compelling.
  • CON: Episode #20 ("Homeland") is just so implausible.
I have three episodes left and all of the episodes from episode #20 break the required suspension of disbelief. The final three will have to somehow knock it out of the ballpark, and right now I'm doubtful that they can.....
  • PRO: KOKIA OP & ED (and the OST as well.....)
It's a bad sign when (3 episodes away from finishing) the OST & KOKIA's OP/ED are the highlights of the series.....
  • CON: The series is a goddamned commercial for the source material! (In this case a visual novel.)
(The) Piano Forest (movie) Very good
