A rare chance to see some of the original artwork from the hit manga series “Drifters” on display at the home of the Shimadzu family, Sengan-en located in Kagoshima, Japan. The house and gardens overlook active volcano Sakurajima and are one of the most popular destinations for visitors to Kyushu.
Sengan-en and active volcano Sakurajima
Drifters centers on various historical figures summoned to save an unknown world and features Shimadzu Toyohisa. Toyohisa was the son of Shimadzu Iehisa, one of the four Shimadzu brothers who dominated Kyushu in the late 16th century. Toyohisa was killed at the age of 30 in the Battle of Sekigahara while allowing his uncle Shimadzu Yoshihiro to escape.
In Drifters Toyohisa is transported to another world just before he dies and joins forces with other historical figures such as Oda Nobunaga, Hannibal, and Butch Cassidy to fight against the evil “Ends”.
In addition to the display of original artwork, a suit of armour worn by Toyohisa is on display until September 12 at the Shoko Shuseikan Museum next to Sengan-en.
Toyohisa fans can also try wearing a realistic replica of Toyohisa's armour and take pictures with the backdrop of active volcano Sakurajima with the Shimadzu Samurai Armour Experience.
