Report: SEA Streaming Market Grows 14% in 2024

Entertainment news source Variety reported on Wednesday that the Media Partners Asia (MPA) consulting and research firm published new data stating that Southeast Asia's video-on-demand market has grown 14% to a total regional market value of US$1.8 billion in 2024, with Indonesia being the territory with the largest revenue at US$552 million, and Thailand at second with US$473 million.
The Philippines and Malaysia also experienced growth during the year.
The report noted that among types of content, anime remains popular, "especially on SVOD platforms in Thailand." Korean shows are a primary driver of viewership numbers, but content from the United States comprises around 20% of viewership.
Among streaming video-on-demand services, Netflix had a 42% revenue share and 52% viewership share in Southeast Asia in 2024, with the service now boasting 12 million subscribers in the region. The Southeast Asian region as a whole now has 53.6 million subscribers among multiple services.
