NTV announced on Sunday that Hiromi Ōkubo's Setsuyaku Rock (Rock Savings) manga is getting a live-action television series that will premiere on NTV on January 21 at 24:59 (effectively January 22 at 12:59 a.m.).
KAT-TUN member Tatsuya Ueda (right above) is starring in the series as Takao. Johnny's West member Daiki Shigeoka (left above) co-stars as Kōta Inaba, Takao's handsome and refreshing rival. Hayashi Mori is penning the scripts, and Hidehiro Kawai is composing the music. Kaku Mizuno, Atsushi Okamoto, and Kai Ōe are directing the series.
The comedy manga centers on Takao Matsumoto, a 30-year-old bachelor who has no savings and loves rock music. The original manga ran in Kodansha's Morning magazine in 2017, and Kodansha published the one compiled volume on January 23.
Ōkubo's Hito wa Mita Me ga 100 Percent (Woman's All About the Looks.) manga inspired a live-action television series that premiered on Fuji TV in April 2017.
Ōkubo launched the manga in Be Love in 2014, and ended it in 2015. Kodansha published the manga's fourth compiled book volume in February 2016. Ōkubo resumed the series in Be Love in March 2017, and ended it again in June 2017. The manga's fifth and final volume shipped in the same month.
