Nintendo confirmed on its official website on Monday that Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete (Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time), the Dragon Quest franchise's latest main game, is still slated to release on Nintendo's newly-revealed Nintendo Switch platform.
While Square Enix had stated last year that it plans to release the game on the upcoming Nintendo Switch (then known as "NX") console, the new website for the game and previously posted videos all listed the game only for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. As of Monday, the website still only lists these platforms.
Square Enix also posted footage of the game's Nintendo 3DS version.
The "Dragon Quest XI JF2017 Special Stage" event at Jump Festa on Saturday debuted the game's opening video, as well as a comparison video of the game's PS4 and Nintendo 3DS versions.
The game's protagonist is a young hero raised in the tranquil town of Ishi in the game's world of "Lotozetacia." On the day he turned 16 (when one becomes an adult at Ishi), he embarks on an adventure. The opening movie above features the protagonist holding Loto's (Erdrick's) sword.
The protagonist's friend is Kamyu, a blue-haired thief whom the protagonist encountered on his journey:
The new game will feature the recurring casino mini-game, and the recurring "puff-puff" ability.
The game will ship in 2017. Square Enix plans to release the game within the Dragon Quest series' 30th anniversary, before May 27, 2017. Square Enix has no "concrete plan" yet to release the game in the West.
