Viz Acknowledges Its Nura Release Uses TV Version
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Viz Media confirmed with ANN on Friday that its home video release of Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan: Demon Capital is the censored, broadcast version. Viz Media stated that the licensors provided the Japanese broadcast masters, and obtaining the Japanese home video masters was not possible for the North American release.
Viz Media provided the following statement to retailer Right Stuf on Tuesday:
In releasing Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan: Demon Capital, it has come to our attention the discs feature the broadcast version of the material rather than what was present on the Japanese retail release. This version contains some slight visual modifications, as present in the original Japanese broadcast. We use the materials provided to us and approved by our licensors. While we always strive to use the Japanese retail masters, it was not possible for the release of Nura. Should a similar situation arise in the future, we will be sure to clearly message this in advance.
Viz released the first set for the series on Blu-ray and DVD on January 28.
