JAST USA: Licensing Starry Sky Games Is Unlikely
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
JAST USA and JList head Peter Payne revealed to website Technology Tell that his company is unlikely to release the Starry Sky series of otome games (games aimed at female players). Payne stated, "We did not get a good response from the companies in question."
Payne attributed the problem to licensing fees for use of the games' voice cast and the voice actors' studios asking for as much as half of the original pay out for the additional release. Payne elaborated that the situation extends to most otome games and "voice actor studios looking to profit from any secondary use of their voices [are] unwilling to negotiate." JAST USA may instead release more yaoi titles targeted at female audiences because "anything with sex in it is easier since the voice actors are much easier."
The Starry Sky drama CDs and games inspired a television anime in 2010. The otome game label honeybee teased a new project for Starry Sky in its New Year's greeting video.
