Bubblegum Crisis Kickstarter Adds Stretch Goal for 3rd Blu-ray
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
On Saturday, AnimEigo added two stretch goals to its Kickstarter campaign to fund a North American Blu-ray Disc release of Bubblegum Crisis.
If the campaign reaches US$130,000 and backers vote to include it, AnimEigo will master a third Blu-ray Disc. If the campaign reaches US$160,000 and backers vote to include it, AnimEigo will author a third Blu-ray Disc. AnimEigo founder Robert J. Woodhead explained that a third BD50 disc "'unlocks' a lot of other possibilities — more bits means more space for more content, and/or a higher bitrate for the OVAs themselves."
The campaign met its original US$75,000 goal last month. The "Ultimate Edition" of the eight-episode Bubblegum Crisis original video anime series includes the HD-recut Hurricane Live 2032/2033 Bubblegum Crisis animated music videos, and the upconverted live-action music video "The Holiday in Bali" on region-free BD50 Blu-Ray discs. The package will bundle five postcards from Megatokyo and a custom Commemorative Challenge Coin with supporter-assisted designs.
The campaign still leaves open the possibility of bundling AD Police "if the budget allows it (a new HD telecine transfer will be needed)," but not the Bubblegum Crash anime series "at this time."
AnimEigo released Bubblegum Crisis in a DVD box set in 2004 and on remastered single DVDs in 2005.
