Beautiful robot girls show to premiere in January
Voice actresses Maaya Uchida and Minami Tsuda are joining the cast of Robot Girls Z, the new anime from the project that turns Dynamic Planning and Toei Animation's robots into beautiful girls.
Maaya Uchida will play 14-year-old Gecchan, a reference to Go Nagai's robot franchise Getter Robo. She is extremely spoiled and blunt, and although she has lots of firepower, she is also capricious. She needs lavish praising to operate at her full potential. Her weapons of choice are her familiar Getter Tomahawk and Getter Beam.
Minami Tsuda will play 20-year-old Zieg-san, a reference to Go Nagai's Kotetsu Zieg manga and anime. She is the head of a super-popular circle at dōjinshi events. She is the oldest of the robot girls and is happiest when she recounts her past exploits of valor. Her weapons are Knuckle Bomber, Spin Storm, and Mach Drill.
The new cast will be joining Mariko Honda as Z-chan (a girl reimagining of Mazinger Z), Inori Minase as Gre-chan (Great Mazinger), Kazusa Aranami as Grenda-san (UFO Robo Grendizer), Aya Hisakawa as Ashura, Yukiko Morishita as Garada K7, Nao Tōyama as Daburasu M2, Kaori Takaoka as Gai-chan (Gaiking), Satomi Satou as Gacky (Ga-Keen), Ayumi Tsuji as Bara-tan (Baratack), Chiharu Kitaoka as Dandan (Danguard Ace), Yuna Taniguchi as Geromazen R9, Kanako Miyamoto as Gerossum X2, Mika Kikuchi as Minerva X, and Shizuka Furuya as Line X1.
Together the three main girls form Robot Girls Z (a.k.a. Team Z), a unit assigned to promote the future energy source Photon Energy and eliminate enemies who seek Photon Energy for themselves. (Photon Energy comes from Go Nagai's original Mazinger Z manga and anime.) Usually, the team operates from Nerima Ward Oizumi Academy's Photon Energy District in Tokyo.
Honda, Minase, Aranami, Uchida, and Tsuda also form Kikai Shōjo Tai (Mechanical Girl Team), the group that performs the anime's title theme song "Robot Girls Z." Robot Girls Kenkyūsho Ongaku-bu wrote the lyrics, and ARM (IOSYS) composed and arranged the music. Nippon Columbia will sell the single next year.
Hiroshi Ikehata (original Toei Robot Girls, Ring ni Kakero 1: Sekai Taikai-hen) is directing the new anime, and Kazuho Hyodo (Tactical Roar) is in charge of the scripts. Tetsuya Kawakami (Shigofumi - Letters from the Departed, Toei Robot Girls) designed the characters.
The series will premiere in January.
