Swedish Fansub Site Closed By Copyright Enforcement Agency
posted on by Karen Ressler
The Swedish copyright enforcement agency Intrångsundersökning seized the servers for Swedish and English fansub website Undertexter.se on Tuesday. The site, which offered free downloads of subtitle text files for movies and TV shows — including several anime series — now features a message stating that the site will not give up, and is asking for donations. The website did not host video files.
In a similar case in 2007, Polish police detained nine people for questioning regarding their involvement in the Napisy.org website that similarly offered downloads of subtitle script files. In May of this year, that case was closed, as prosecutors decided to drop the charges due to the charged individuals' ignorance of the unlawfulness of their actions.
