NISA Adds Yuruyuri School Comedy Anime Series
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
NIS America (NISA), the American subsidiary of the Nippon Ichi Software game company, announced on Thursday that it will release the first season of the Yuruyuri television anime series on September 3. NISA will release the series with Japanese audio and English subtitles in a two-disc Blu-ray Disc premium edition box set. Included with the boxset is a hardcover full-color art book with an episode guide, character and promotional art, and interviews with the Amusement club and student council members. Video extras include clean openings and endings and B-side episode previews. The set will retail for US$64.99.
NISA also confirmed with ANN that it will release the second season of the series, Yuruyuri♪♪, in early 2014.
The 12-episode Yuruyuri anime adapts Namori's manga about four fun-loving schoolgirls who take over the former room of a tea ceremony club for their own "Gorakubu" (amusement club). The voice actresses who play the four club members — Shiori Mikami, Yuka Ōtsubo, Minami Tsuda and Rumi Ookubo — also perform the opening and ending theme songs.
Masahiko Ohta (Kotoura-san, Mitsudomoe, Minami-ke) directed the series at studio Dogakobo. Takashi Aoshima (Minami-ke, Brighter than the Dawning Blue, Love Lab) handled the series composition, and Yasuhiro Misawa (Minami-ke, Kokoro Connect, Mitsudomoe) handled the music.
The anime premiered in Japan in July 2011, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired. The 12-episode sequel series Yuruyuri♪♪ aired last year, and Crunchyroll also streamed that series as it aired. JManga and ALC Publishing released part of the original manga digitally in English before JManga shut down last month.
