The Okayama police arrested 42-year-old office worker Hideyuki Matsushima and his 40-year-old unemployed wife Megumi on Thursday evening for allegedly selling counterfeit stickers of Anpanman, Hello Kitty, and other popular anime characters.
According to the authorities, the Bizen City couple made stickers last June and July for sale in online auctions at 600 to 650 yen (US$6.00-6.50) apiece. A 29-year-old female office worker from Okayama City and two others bought a total of five stickers for 3,900 yen (US$39). The couple allegedly admitted to the charges, saying that they did it to cover living expenses.
The police confiscated a sticker-making cutting machine, personal computers, and about 100 stickers from the couple's home.
