Viz Promotes Ken Sasaki to President & CEO

North American manga publisher Viz Media announced on Thursday that Ken Sasaki, its current Senior Vice President and General Manager, will succeed Hidemi Fukuhara as President and CEO on April 1. In turn, Fukuhara will be elevated to Vice Chairman and step away from day-to-day operations. Sasaki joined the company in February 2008, while Fukuhara has been with the company since March 2004, after 19 years at Merrill Lynch Japan Securities.
In its press release, Viz emphasized Sasaki's role as "a driving force behind developing relationships with industry leaders for the digital distribution of anime." Viz also said that, after the digital launches of Viz Anime, Viz Manga, and Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha, "Sasaki plans to unveil the next digital chapter for Viz Media this summer."
