Rising Star Games Acquires Marvelous AQL's USA Publishing
posted on by Kimberly Grace
As of the beginning of this year, Rising Star Games has taken over the American publishing business of its former parent company, Marvelous AQL.
The managing director of Rising Star, Martin Defries, says that the up-and-coming company was given the opportunity to take the publishing business. Rising Star will re-brand the Marvelous offshoot and turn it into an American subsidiary. The company already has plans for the release of its first game. The side-scrolling shooter Akai Katana will be released for the Xbox 360 console in the second quarter of 2012, in both the United States and Europe. Rising Star Games also announced it has started a new Rising Star Games Digital division, which will publish games on XBox Live Arcade, PLAYSTATION Network, Steam, iOS and Android.
Marvelous AQL came into existence just last October by merging with the game publisher AQ Interactive and the mobile app developer Liveware. It began production on an Evangelion browser game shortly after. The original company, Marvelous Entertainment, began having financial troubles in 2009 when it asked a number of its employees to voluntarily retire.
