The video game publisher Rising Star Games, a subsidiary of Grasshopper Manufacture, announced on Thursday it will expand into North America and open an office in California. The company also announced that this new branch will release its first game, Cave's Akai Katana side-scrolling shooter game, simultaneously in the United States and Europe in the second quarter of 2012 on the Xbox 360.
The game was originally released as an arcade game in 2010, and an Xbox 360 port, titled Akai Katana Shin, was released in Japan on May 26. Ryū Umemoto (Kono Yo no Hate de Koi o Utau Shōjo YU-NO, EVE burst error), who passed away last year, composed the music for both games. Aksys Games released Cave's other side-scrolling shooter game Deathsmiles on the Xbox 360 in June 2010.
Rising Star Games also announced it has started a new Rising Star Games Digital division, which will publish games on XBox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, Steam, iOS and Android.
