Tokyopop Signs On with Diamond Book Distributors
posted on by Gia Manry
The ICv2 retail news site reports that Tokyopop has signed a distribution agreement with Diamond Book Distributors, the arm of Diamond Comic Distributors that handles graphic novel sales to bookstores. The deal is set to begin on July 1, and Tokypop Chief Operating Officer (COO) John Parker will move to work as Vice President of Business Development at Diamond. Parker had worked at Tokyopop for 12 years.
Tokypop has been distributed by HarperCollins since 2006, when the company announced a co-publishing deal that included Tokyopop creating manga based on popular HarperCollins titles such as Erin Hunter's Warriors series. According to the announcement, the companies will continue their publishing relationship.
Diamond Book Distributors already handles distribution for other North American companies, including Bandai Entertainment, Dark Horse Comics, Digital Manga Publishing, Udon Entertainment, and Yaoi Press. On Wednesday, Diamond announced that it would put all orders from the troubled bookstore chain Borders on hold as the chain struggles to make payments to publishers.
