posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese studio Nikkatsu and the North American distributor Funimation have announced on Wednesday that Funimation has the exclusive first-look option on films from The Sushi Typhoon, Nikkatsu's new genre film label. The first two titles from this venture will be the action gore comedy films Alien vs. Ninja and Mutant Girls Squad in early 2011. Veteran horror directors Yoshihiro Nishimura (Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl, Tokyo Gore Police), Noboru Iguchi (Robogeisha, The Machine Girl), and Tak Sakaguchi (Samurai Zombie) each directed one of Mutant Girls Squad's three parts.
The New York Asian Film Festival will host the world premiere of Alien vs. Ninja and the international premiere of Mutant Girls Squad on July 3. The films will then be screened at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival and Switzerland's Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival. San Diego's Comic-Con International will host appearances by Nishimura and the stars of Alien vs. Ninja, as well as screenings of both films, this month.
