U.S. Bookstore Sales Fell 4.1% in April

The United States Census Bureau reports that national bookstore sales declined 4.1% in the month of April to US$917 million. In the three months prior to April, bookstore sales had seen a 1.2% increase overall, but with the April decline, those sales have remained steady at US$5.24 billion.
The drop in bookstore sales came in spite of an overall retail market sales increase of 4.6%; total 1Q retail sales in the United States were up 4%.
