Life Story of Mainichi Kaasan's Saibara Gets TV Show

Kono Yo de Ichiban Daiji na "Kane" no Hanashi with Akihabara @ DEEP's Yu Yamada

Model and actress Yu Yamada (Akihabara @ DEEP, Paradise Kiss) will star in a live-action television adaptation of the autobiographical essay Kono Yo de Ichiban Daiji na "Kane" no Hanashi by Mainichi Kaa-san creator Rieko Saibara. The Gakeppuchi no Erii ~ Kono Yo de Ichiban Daiji na "Kane" no Hanashi television series, which will premiere this July, will be the first such work in which Yamada is starring. Muga Tsukaji (Shibatora), Kōtarō Koizumi, Yōji Tanaka (Summer Wars), Ren Ōsugi (Uzumaki), Takanori Jinnai (Detective Conan), and Eri Watanabe (Twilight of the Cockroaches) will also appear in the television series.

Saibara wrote the original essay to tell her daughter about her life thus far, and the resulting book has sold 200,000 copies. In the book, Saibara describes how she grew up in a poor family and faced up to school bullying to become a successful manga creator.

Saibara's Mainichi Kaa-san manga was adapted into a television anime series last year. Director Daihachi Yoshida (FUNUKE: Show Some Love, You Losers!) adapted another manga by Saibara, Permanent Nobara, and the resulting film premiered on Saturday.
