Sunred, Kawasaki Soccer Team Create New Anime Special
posted on by Egan Loo
The Kawasaki Frontale soccer team has announced on Monday that it will collaborate again with the creators of the Tentai Senshi Sunred anime series on a television anime special. The Sunred gag comedy parodizes superhero stories with an unemployed, chain-smoking hero who mooches off his girlfriend while fighting villains. Makoto Kubota's original manga takes place in Kawasaki (a city directly south of Tokyo), so the anime staff animated members of Kawasaki Frontale for television spots during the first series' run. Due to the spots' popularity among both Frontale and Sunred fans, a new special collaborative "Kawasaki Frontale x Tentai Senshi Sunred" anime is in production.
The new anime is slated to premiere during a longer television special on March 5, the day before J. League's 2010 season starts. The Frontale members have been recording their dialogue while the Sunred staff is completing production on the anime. The first season of Sunred premiered in Fall of 2008, and the second season aired last fall.
