Hitohira School Comedy Manga to End This Month
posted on by Egan Loo
Futabasha's Comic High! magazine has announced that Izumi Kirihara is ending her Hitohira school comedy manga after four years in the June issue on May 22. However, Kirihara launched a new manga called Akira to Hiyori (Akira and Hiyori) in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine on Friday. She is also still serializing Shirayuki Panimix! in Mag Garden's Comic Blade magazine.
The Hitohira manga centers on a shy girl named Mugi Asai who transforms herself after she is forced to join her school's drama club. The manga inspired a 12-episode television anime series that aired in 2007. Aurora Publishing, the American arm of Japan's Ohzora Publishing, published the third of the current six manga volumes in North America in February.
In the Akira to Hiyori manga, Akira Azuma is a tall, attractive, but aloof Kusunoki High School freshman girl and all-around athlete. Hiyori Motohashi is a short Kusunoki freshman girl in the school's broadcasting club. While trying to set up coverage on Akira, Hiyori finds herself attracted to Akira's mysterious charm. According to Young Gangan magazine, the "sweet soulmate graffiti" story is only planned for a short run.
