News Program to Take Over Conan, Yatterman's Timeslot
posted on by Egan Loo
The Daily Sports and Sports Nippon newspapers both reported last week that the Japanese broadcaster NTV will be launching an hour-long weekday news program at 7:00 p.m. next April. However, that timeslot is currently held on Mondays by "Anime 7," the back-to-back showings of the Detective Conan and Yatterman anime. NTV has not officially announced whether either anime program is ending or moving to another timeslot. The public broadcaster NHK already airs its longrunning News 7 program in that timeslot, while another station, TBS, has revealed that it will launch a live two-hour news program from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in April. Despite the lack of official word on Detective Conan and Yatterman's fates, Japanese fans have launched an online petition to ask for Detective Conan to continue.
Viz Media is releasing the original manga in North America under the name Case Closed, and FUNimation Entertainment shipped DVDs for the television anime adaptation. Takashi Miike's live-action film adaptation of Yatterman will open in Japan on March 7, while the next Detective Conan film, Meitantei Conan: Shikkoku no Chaser (Detective Conan: The Jet Black Chaser), will open in April.
Thank you to ryonomiko for the news tip.
