Kunio Katō's 12-minute anime won awards at Annecy, Hiroshima Film Fests
Kunio Katō's award-winning "Tsumiki no Ie" ("La Maison en Petits Cubes" or "The House of Small Cubes") anime short will be screened at the 3rd San Francisco International Animation Festival this Friday and Saturday. The 12-minute work tells the story of a grandfather's memories as he adds more blocks to his house to stem the flooding waters. Katō animated the short with paper drawings and 2D computer graphics, and his effort won the Annecy Cristal and a Junior Jury Award at France's Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market last June. The film also won the Hiroshima Prize and the Audience Prize at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival last August. "The House of Small Cubes" joins eight other shorts from Annecy as part of the "Best of Annecy 2008" showing.
