posted on by Egan Loo
Felix Ip, the creative director of the IMAGI animation studio, revealed in his personal blog that the teaser trailer for his studio's computer-animated Astro Boy film will be screened before the public this month. David Bowers' film revisits the Tetsuwan Atom (Mighty Atom) robot boy hero created by the manga and anime pioneer Osamu Tezuka (Jungle Emperor/Kimba the White Lion, Metropolis, Black Jack). IMAGI already previewed the teaser to corporate film buyers and distributors at the American Film Market on Wednesday night in Santa Monica, California.
According to Ip, "the trailer will be shown to [the] public in theaters very soon (within this month)." His company also erected a promotional standee, pictured at right, at the event. The film features the scriptwriter Timothy Harris (Trading Places, Kindergarten Cop) and a cast with Freddie Highmore in the title role, Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane, Bill Nighy, Eugene Levy, Kristen Bell, and Matt Lucas. The film distributor Summit Entertainment plans to open the film in over 3,000 North American theaters on October 23, 2009.
