Dragon Head's Mochizuki to Start New Manga
posted on by Egan Loo
This year's 41st issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine has revealed in an assistant job posting on Thursday that Minetarō Mochizuki (Dragon Head, Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl) is starting a new manga series this fall. Mochizuki just finished his five-year-long Maiwai manga in Kodansha's Young Magazine in March. Tokyopop published ten volumes of Mochizuki's Dragon Head manga in North America so far. Three prominent Japanese directors — George Iida, Katsuhito Ishii, and Jōji Matsuoka — have adapted Mochizuki's Dragon Head, Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl (Samehada Otoko to Momojiri Onna), and Bataashi Kingyo manga as live-action films. Mochizuki is known for his unconventional storytelling and psychological suspense stories.
Shizuka Itō (Fukusuke), Satoshi Yoshida (Shōnan Bakusōzoku, Birdman Rally), and five other creators have also posted job listings for assistants in the current Morning issue. Itō and Yoshida are planning to start new manga this fall or this winter.
