1st Death Note Film to Play in Canadian Theaters

posted on by Egan Loo
Manga-based live-action film to run in about 60 locations on September 15

Viz Pictures, an affiliate of Viz Media, has announced that the first live-action film based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's Death Note manga will run in about 60 Cineplex Entertainment and Empire Theatres locations in Canada on September 15. There will be one showing on that Monday at each location at 9:00 p.m. local time. The story follows the deadly cat-and-mouse game between a boy with a notebook that can put people to death with only their names, and the genius detective who tracks down the young vigilante.

Tickets will be sold by themselves, or bundled with the movie's DVD for C$29.99. The DVD/ticket bundle goes on sale in North America on August 29, and copies of the standalone DVD will be also available for sale at each theater location after the screening. The Canadian screenings will show the same 20-minute featurette, including an interview with director Shusuke Kaneko (Gamera), that was shown during the American screenings in May.

More information, advance tickets, and a complete list of participating theatres are available at www.DeathNoteFilms.com, www.cineplex.com, or www.empiretheatres.com/deathnote.
