Fist of the North Star Manga Marks 25 Years with Wedding
posted on by Egan Loo
Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The official Japanese website for the 25th anniversary of Buronson and Tetsuo Hara's Fist of the North Star fighting manga has announced that a "soul wedding ceremony" between the two main leads will mark the actual anniversary date. On September 13 — the same day that the manga began running in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine exactly 25 years ago — the kekkonshiki of Kenshiro and Yuria will be held at Tokyo's Nippon Seinenkan Grand Hall. ("Kekkonshiki" is a wordplay on the Japanese term for "wedding ceremony," except one of its characters is replaced by the homonymous character for "soul.")
777 free "invitations" will be distributed through Coamix's Weekly Comic Bunch magazine, the Wedding GyaO! website for engaged couples, and the official Fist of the North Star website. Artists, celebrities, and people involved with Fist of the North Star are also expected to attend. Atsuhiro Sugio, the producer of Long Vacation and other popular live-action drama series, is coordinating the entire wedding with real-life wedding planner Akemi Ariga of Take and Give Needs Co., Ltd.
About 3,000 mourners — celebrities and fans alike — attended a "funeral" for Kenshiro's rival Raoh on April 18, 2007. This earlier ceremony commemorated the premiere of the True Saviour Legend Fist of the North Star - The Legend of Raoh: Fierce Fighting Arc film that month.
