The About.com website has
interviewed jaPRESS, the relatively new company that co-publishes or edits the acclaimed
Fumiyo Kōno's
Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms manga, the
Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno photo book, and
Otaku USA magazine. Co-owners
Patrick Macias and
Izumi Evers describe how Evers launched the company to publish
Pure Trance from
Junko Mizuno (
Cinderalla,
Princess Mermaid), and how the two convinced Japan's
Futabasha and America's
Last Gasp Publishing to greenlight an English version of Kōno's post-bombing Hiroshima
manga. They also discuss the genesis of
Otaku USA magazine and the
Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno book. Finally, the two hint at possible future projects, such as another Mizuno title, a "
real controversial manga," and a men's version of
Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno.
