Japanese Box Office, January 12–13

Always Zoku San-chōme no Yūhi (Always: Sunset on Third Street 2) stays at #8 in its 11th weekend at the Japanese box office. The hit movie is Takashi Yamazaki's second film based on Ryōhei Saigan's Sanchoume no Yuuhi - Yuuyake no Uta post-war slice-of-life manga. It took in the equivalent of US$398,539 this past weekend for a US$39,369,726 total haul (Box Office Mojo).
Eiga de Tōjō! Tamagotchi Doki Doki! Uchū no Maigotchi!? (Appearing on Film! Tamagotchi!: Lost in Space!?), the first feature-length film based on the toys that spawned the virtual pet fad, dropped three spots to #9. It earned US$350,617 in its fifth weekend to add to its US$6,458,009 total so far. Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion - Mō Hitotsu no Hyōrinmaru, Noriyuki Abe's second film based on the Bleach television anime series and manga, fell again from the #7 spot to #10 in its fourth weekend. It added US$331,656 to its US$6,333,028 gross-to-date. Earth, the 2007 British documentary from the same BBC team that created the Planet Earth television series, opened in Japan as the #1 movie this past weekend.
