Kyoto Hosts Sengoku Era-Themed Anime and Game Event
posted on by Evan Miller
Fans of anime, manga, and videogames with themes rooted in Japanese history gathered in the former Japanese capital of Kyoto in late September for an unusual take on fan gatherings: a festival held in a movie lot designed to look like medieval Japan. The "Uzumasa Sengoku Matsuri" was held on the grounds of the Toei Uzumasa Movie Town (also known as Toei Movie Land), a theme park dedicated to films and other entertainment media that are set in historical Japan.
The event specifically focused on anime and games set in the Sengoku Era (also known as the "warring states" period), but cosplay from other historical eras was allowed as well. Cosplay from game and anime series such as Samurai Warriors, Bleach and Gintama could be seen all over the park, and cosplayers had the opportunity to practice stage fighting with staff from the park. Game maker Capcom was also on hand to hold a panel about the game Basara 2, based on the popular manga series of the same name.
