posted on by George Phillips
Roy Bruce, founder of the Japanese Animation Network anime club (founded in 1987) in Richmond VA, has passed away.
Roy Bruce has died of cancer. Roy may not be a "household name" in the world of anime and manga, but he was absolutely instrumental to the growth and development of anime fandom in North America. In 1987, he founded one of the first anime clubs in the US, the Richmond, VA-based Japanese Animation Network, and in recent years, has served as a senior staffer with a number of anime conventions, including NekoCon, Katsucon and Anime MidAtlantic.
In 2001, he worked towards archiving early Anime Fanzines. (archive.org mirror of the announcement)
